Discharge Frustration
« on: November 14, 2013, 11:31:19 PM »
I've been trying  DC White (CCI and Union) when we print wow the color directly after the white sticks to the point of potentially  pulling the shirt off the board.    CPTex  sharpe edge 2/1    Print  2DCW/1P  on auto 60psi    Mixing act. at 5 to 6%
Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong. Stuff is driving me crazy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Always always always print the white last. If that can't be done, you can either mix in some base to the white, or i hate to say it, flash after the white.

So Plasties first then lay a layer of DCW over all of them?

Knock everything out so the white is only on the shirt. Use a discharge clear base for plastisol on top.

100% Clear discharge or at most something like 80% clear/20% white for the underbase.

Flash.

Lay down plastisol.

Flash (if needed).

Highlight white, and as mentioned, these parts should be directly to the shirt, knocked out from other colors.

If you are doing something intricate where it is difficult to knock out the white, I would use the 80/20 mix and call it a day.  It will be plenty white for most customers/jobs.  If you really need the pop, the highlight white is the only real option where you avoid sticking.

edit: Any reason you arent just using all DC rather than a mix?

I started with the premix Discharge as a underbase because that's what both Mfg's recommended. Both said wow, but I'm finding that's not the case. I guess my goal was to reduce screens on each job and wishfully eliminate flash times.

DO NOT use dwhite as an underbase. Clear dbase or at the very least, 80 clear/20 white mix as a base, 100 percent dbase and your plastisol won't adhear, will wash off and make a mess.

Did you mean dwhite? Because that directly contradicts the first part unless I completely don't understand what is being talked about... Which could completely be the case.

right, do not use 100% discharge white as and underbase, your top colors will not adhere. Trust someone who was talked into it and found out later a very large order of shirts with 8 colors of plastisol that washed off. Some guys have had success with a small percentage of D-White in the mix of clear, but personally I won't push it more than 20% of d-white 80% clear discharge base. I've just seen that too much of the white particulate keeps the plastisol from getting to the fiber of the shirt.

Thanks Guys.

80-90% of what we printed this year all had DC Base in one form or another.

On problematic colors, Royal, Kelly green and 50/50.  I use 50/50 mix of DWhite and Dbase with 6% Act.  And get some really good results.

you arent having issues with washoff/flaking with that high a percentage of dwhite?  We got shoddy results on pretty much anything over 20% when we were testing (which we did tons of after a big 6 color run with a 100% dwhite base washed almost completely off...expensive learning experience!).
