Discharge newbie
« on: November 12, 2013, 03:54:08 PM »
I am new with discharge and am experiencing a few problems and was looking for some help. I'm sure I've read the answers somewhere on here before but when something doesn't apply to you it doesn't sink in.
Initially I had problems with the exposure time as the emulsion was different than I'm used to. We have a weak light source (fluorescent tube) and the long exposure time was creating wash out problems. What is the best emulsion for a shop wanting to be able to use it for discharge and for plastisol?
Next after I registered it I did a test and it didn't seem to have enough penetration so I upped the pressure on the auto and it was much better. I did choose to run two stroke cycles and I think that was a mistake because there was some bleeding with the final prints. Also I had taped over my registration marks like a normal plastisol job and before long they migrated to another spot leaving the registration marks on the final print!  So what is the best way to cover registration marks?
I can see the advantages of the discharge however it is just foreign enough to make me uncomfortable.
Thanks for the help.

Aquasol HV emulsion with hardener for long runs.

Either don't use reg marks, put them high and low enough on screen to miss the squeegee/flood, or
register your screens, clean over the reg marks, and tape on the squeegee side of the screen.

You are printing the white last, yes? Looks like too much pressure as you guessed, there's a balance for
not squeezing out and still getting good penetration. Water will help.

Aquasol HVP here. And post expose(the right way :D)

If you are burning the screens in advance enough just block the reg marks out with emulsion before you post expose. Otherwise we have used fingernail polish to block out on press or short time before it goes on press. Also, like was said tape on the squeegee side. On the shirt side always creates a issue of some kind.

Hopefully I'll never have to grow up and get a real job...
