Old Photoshop 7 doesn't like 1.5 T drives?
« on: November 05, 2013, 10:20:07 AM »
Is this the case as I try to move it to my newest machine? This is the biggest drive of any of my machines.
I have read that in another forum when looking for a solution to the "Can't initialize due to full scratch disks" message.

I guess that it may be time for a "partition on the fly" application.

And, yes I already hear the suggestions to get a newer version, but damn if this doesn't do all I need in general.

Don't have any other drives laying around that you can use as a 2nd (3rd?) drive?

It would be faster like that anyway.

Assuming that the HP isn't so proprietary that it makes adding another drive tricky, yes, I do have a 350 or 500 kicking around here somewhere.
Are you suggesting installing only PS on it?

Thing is, this machine is supposed to be the inexpensive solution to merely being able to see client's files, and a little real-time design work with them.
Hell, the CorelDRAW would probably be sufficient, but I have gotten so used to having PS for when I need it, the new machine feels a little naked without it.

I just wish that they would have skimped on the hard drive a bit to make my life easier. I don't need 1.5 T and PS7 can't even recognize it!

I was actually suggesting putting all of your swap/scratch disks assigned to the 2nd drive.

You could also swap those hard drives and drop in the smaller one for that computer and use the 1.5 for something that will be better used.

You could either close the hard drive or just reinstall to the other hard drive.

Though the error message says that Scratch Disks are full, it is actually nothing to do with scratch disks per se, but rather an error caused by the old PS7 not playing with and recognizing a drive over 1T.

If I didn't mind the expense, I'd go small SSD for OS and applications like on my "real" computer. This box, however, was an exercise in just how much I could get for less than $300 ($279).
Heck, Windows 7 64 bit Pro (with a disk) and 8G of memory is a big chunk of that just to start with!

Yes, but pointing your scratch disk to the smaller drive will eliminate that error (I'm 99% certain).

but as long as PS7 is on the large drive, it won't even initialize to allow setting a scratch disk. So, back to square one until I have either a smaller drive for it, or, the ubantu gparted you suggested.

Ah, I see.

Aren't those settings in a text file somewhere?  Some .ini file?

Could always change it manually.  Even put in a jump drive just to get by for a bit and see if it works.
