Customer (contract customer I might add...): "Why does the proof look so smoothed and not as crisp"

Me: "because the artwork was a 72dpi thumbnail .jpg"

Customer: "What can we do?"

Me: "Start with vector art or pay $30 for me to redraw it (~ 45 minutes)"

Customer: "I'll get you vector art"

2 hours later I get an e-mail, attachment "vectorlogo.jpg" Same .jpg, same resolution, different name..... the name actually made me laugh out loud. I guess someone thought if they renamed it it would be good to go, or they could fool me or something..... man sometimes life is just too short...... I'm used to getting the .jpg in a pdf, or .ai or .eps but just renaming it, that's a new one to me. It's just one of those things only you guys could appreciate.....

 I get 72 dpi .jpgs all the time exported to .eps.

Sometimes it's just easier to re-draw than try to explain to a customer who obviously doesn't get it.

I do always use the "Vector is like a letter in Word while low resolution raster is like an old Atari 2600 game" example. They are generally aware that a letter in Word is sharp and smooth no matter the size, and if they are old or geeky enough, they know about Atari 2600 video games.

I tell them to open the jpeg, and print it out at 200% (so it's 36 ppi) and tell me what they think... usually, they get the point; usually...
