One of ours is a Eaton, not a screw though. The company is great! I have had nothing but awesome luck with them. When we used their compressor for our main one back in the day, something had gone wrong and after talking with them they figured it was the motor. They shipped me a new motor next day(we should probably be a 2 day ship) freight, shipping and motor free! After putting the new motor in it turned out to be something else that costed like $8 to have replaced locally. They didn't ask for the motor back or shipping $ or anything. They were just happy we were just back up and running.
If I didn't get such a killer deal on our new and main compressor off of Craigslist, I wouldn't of hesitated to get another Eaton.

Hopefully I'll never have to grow up and get a real job...

Is the compressor going to live inside the shop? might want to factor noise levels into the decision making process.

I have an ingrosol rand unigy total air system. It is a total POS. I do not think it has ever worked more than 15 days in row. At this point it is a 10K paper weight. I don't know who is best but I will strongly suggest that you stay away from IR.

yeah, I would recommend finding a good AC tech and piking their brain, also they might have something they can install for you at a reasonable price.  I am about to upgrade the pump on ours, I am over replacing heads every year at about $800 a pop.

I have a piston type pump, it's loud(but it's outside)  the dang thing keeps blowing gaskets, so they came out with a new head, that helps, it lasts longer, but I am tired of having downtime because the AC is down.

It's a speedair compressor.  I think they are owned by Campbell Hausfield, at least that is who makes the new head kit.

We have a speedair, bought new in 09 and no issues with it yet, what year is yours Brad?  It keeps blowing head gaskets?  I've always worried about our compressor because it's not one of the higher end brands and I expected to have plenty of issues with it by going the cheaper route but we've been lucky or they do make a decent compressor.  Our old unit was a ingersoll, 10HP that didn't have any issues the 3 years we had it.

I've always wanted a rotary screw but the prices just turned me off.  Since we've been running we've never had compressor issues with the piston drive units so I didn't put that much thought into the compressor purchase.

ours is probably 15-20 years old, it's been rebuilt though, probably 8 years ago.

We have a Campbell Hausfield bought in '97 all we have ever done with it was change the oil. Never even had to change the belt yet.

we currently have a piston IR compressor. It's been good, but i think we've outgrown it. I'm actually looking into rotary screw compressors, hopefully making a purchase this week.

Right now my top contenders are Atlas Copco or a Kaeser

We got a bangin' deal on a Chicago Pneumatic 7.5hp.  Basically an atlas copco sub brand.  Very simple rotary screw and chiller setup with 5yr warranty and service has been top notch so far.  Having a guy to service the brand up north of us is a big help to, we're screwed if our comp goes down as no one in town even rents a big enough electric one.  I'm feel confident and happy with the CP in this situation.

They have a less expensive (but louder) line which is what we scored and then a quiter line.  Our sounds about as loud as a vacuum cleaner.

I looked at those and there 7.5hp screw only puts out 20cfm @100 psi. Seems kinda low.

It is on the line if you are running a big all air press or multiple ones but keep in mind these units are rated for continuous run.   I mulled getting a bigger one but it just seemed like overkill for us if the smaller unit can run continuously when needed.
