Epson 1400 glitch??
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:28:04 PM »
Need a fix - my trusty Epson 1400 stopped functioning properly this morning. After 3 hours of trying (I'm not too computer/printer savvy) - still not functioning.

I was ready to go out and just buy a new 1400. Accurip is all setup for it, I know it works perfectly when in works, drivers and everything else ready to go . . .

NOW WHAT?
Is there a generally accepted replacement for the 1400?? My needs- need to print 13x18 film (at least that big- but that size works fine 99% of the time). All Black Ink accepting if possible. Plays nice with Accurip. Can get one by Monday?

The 1430 is like the 1400.  I don't know about a Monday delivery though.  I guess you could have a 2 day delivery.

The Epson 1430 looks somewhat similar.
The Epson W7010 looks to be a decent bare bones printer.

Am I being silly in being afraid of getting a printer that ISN'T on the Accu-rip list of supported printers? (neither of those are). I have issues with Accu-Rip, but it's the one I've got. And I LIKE the AllBlack feature.

I jumped on ebay and bought a used 1400 for now. I'll pick it up Sunday.

Here's the glitch. Printing fine and then suddenly it's only printing a ghost. Pump failure?

I have a aftermarket continuos ink system on mine and if the ink sets below the printer the heads starve for ink and I get a print like this. Also verify the page size is the same for the program and the rip

Our 1400 went out a couple weeks ago. We replaced with a 1430 and it's been fine. Same cartridges and everything. 1400 is discontinued.

We use a 1400, and that looks to me like it's running out of ink, at least that what it looks like when it happens here. I'm assuming you have checked that. Are you running all six carts? You can run from any one of the carts individually, it's in your AccuRIP set. It may solve your problem.  You would also increase the droplet size a little if you go that route. Charlie Facini or anyone at AccuRIP can help you with that, or you can try looking it up on their Knowledgebase...

That looks a like ink starving issue for sure. But I think if memory serves correct when I had the same issue once it turned out to be a memory file size issue.

One thing tho I notice you are printing a multi color in landscape mode, not sure if all printers are equal but my 1400 never held registration in landscape mode. my 1430 is even worse. If I were to print registration marks at the top and bottom of a SUPERB page the bottom regs will be off as much as a point.

I think the new version of AR (and all versions of FilmMaker) has a setting where you can adjust for the travel. We mix our film direction all the time without any issues.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!
