Interesting one.

Usually they want you to deliver shirts accepting their credit card.  Then the shirts are gone when the card bounces.

This one seems to say they will deliver the substrate to you.  I suppose you could go along with the ploy, broken engrish (lol) and all.  You could burn the one screen supposedly needed.  Then after the shirt delivery arrives (probably from another printer scammed on the raw shirts), hold the printing until you run the charge and it clears (maybe even check the bank).  Then, since you have an auto, knock out the 420 pieces in no time.  Nothing in the requested information carries any financial risk.

This one is a bit different.  I probably missed something along the way.

This may be just me and my somewhat closed mind, but when I see something signed "regards" or "best regards" it sends up a flag of being someone that either deals with people overseas frequently or someone that is actually oversees. Can't remember the last time I got a email from someone in Nebraska signed "regards"...

Warmest regards,

Alex :)

From what I've read, the chargeback comes weeks later, and it's in the terms of service of most merchant accounts that you have to pay it.

The regards thing is pretty funny.  Perhaps you should try replying--"In regards to your regards in closing, what exactly were you implying?"
If they can translate that, you gotta give them some regard.   ;D

In regards to the chargeback, that is what happens. It ends up being like 3 weeks after the fact. Regarding the whole situation, if it seems legit(usually the newest version of the scam) we always just say we need cashier's check or cash. We tell them we don't process credit cards.  That usually weeds them out.

For as long as these scams have been going on, does anyone know "Why" they do it or I guess what I mean "How or Who" profits from the whole deal? Is Gildan behind it to sell some extra units? ;D

Greatest Regards,

Alex

I believe initially it was a scam to increase traffic on phone relay systems in Nigeria, and quickly evolved to include the kidnapping, inheritance, and textile industries.

Wow, Gildan has their hands in kidnaping?! Port and CO. better start treading lightly!

Somewhat of a related story, back in the day I got a relay cal(TTL? I think) just like the scam used to be set up. Well I was a hard ass and figured I would go head to head with them, demanded a cashier's check immediately ect.... Long story short, turned out to be a real nice sweet girl that actually was hard of hearing and she brought me a cashiers check latter that day. I felt soooooooooo bad, I gave her a HUGE discount and explained how people try to scam us. She understood and said unfortunately it was common, not just for screen printers...... I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact there is another industry out there besides screen printing. ;)

i spent some time (an embarrassing amount of time), talking back and forth with them, trying to scam the scammer. I was trying to get them to send me the shirts, but they needed a little favor. see they just needed some help paying for the shirts first. then they'd reimburse me $1380.

LOL, ah, THERE's the hook.  The original inquiry just didn't appear to have a loss attributed.

I mean, who would ship you 420 shirts (supplied based on the original request) and you print that stupid slogan and have the charge back occur on you for printing them........and he's gonna do what with 420 shirts with a stupid slogan?

Sadly, the only reporting you could do is to the credit card company....AFTER you have lost money on a deal like this.

So much of this stuff comes from out of country and nobody (police wise) will or can do a thing.

These types of scams go on all the time.  If it smells like a turd, it more than likely is.  Just don't be so hungry to make a buck as to help them out.....with your money and/or time.

Glad you ran across us and joined.  Welcome and join in on the wealth of knowledge and experience that is around.  Feel free to chip in anytime.

To tell you the truth, this stuff is so common and always smells so similar, it really becomes just a minor inconvenience like junk mail or a sales call during dinner.

Heck, these guys may even troll the waters here for possible fish.

Forewarned is forearmed.

And, welcome Chris.

We played along with one of these emails a few months back. We literally confirmed and revised the "order" over and over for a good week at least. We figured replying to a couple emails a day might tie up their time. Eventually, they stopped replying.
