I went on there to order up new platens and see they closed shop. anyone have a good place to get platens?

Action Engineering.  Not the cheapest but you get high quality from the guys there.  They have been providing the industry for as long as I can remember.  Eric and his dad Lenny are the only people I recommend for any aftermarket items for screen printing.  http://www.actionengineering.com/16/home.htm

Yup, they closed up few months ago.
I guess they were too cheap and could not keep open. I have 3 sets of platens from them and I hope that I do not burn any of them.

Yeah I have three and burned one so I was doing to get two more, it was nice because they had the threaded mount holes,, oh well. Action is too expensive for platens in my opinion.

They filled a completely different niche than Action does.
They professionally and quickly did what we would do at home, if we had the time and tools.

Question to owners. What gizmos did they use for thread inserts? I'm sure that they are available for the DIY'rs, and can offer a big improvement over wood screws directly into the wood or particle board.
I still love exploring hardware store drawers for just this type of thing, that otherwise, I never know even exists.

Another trick making MDF pallets is to use Gorilla Glue  then screw the bracket on. It's a once and done thing permanently mounted bracket that won't come loose

Growing up in a wood shop I wondered what type of wood they used
to make them platens, I understand they got plenty of quality wood in
that part of the country  to sell for 15 bucks a piece

Pretty sure it's just MDF with formica or something.

I am pretty bummed to find this out, I forgot about them until now and I would have liked to find out if they could fab some american pallets.
