Messy Ink!!!
« on: May 16, 2013, 11:58:48 AM »
Just a little ink talk as I take a break here...what is the one ink that gets all over the place in your shop no matter what?, for me it's red ink every time I open or get near red ink I get that crap all over the place.  Oh and it loves white shirts even if the print has no red in it, it seems I get a spot of red on one, I know, I know I need to clean my shop!!! LOL

black ink, maaaaaan, it's got such a low viscosity, it always seems to run off of something, drip off a goop scoop, or when someone is carding ink off, always  a glob on somthing. lol  :P I'd rather the black ink globs than stank azz discharge globs everywhere  :o

In the shops I worked in it was ..... Plastisol ink :o.  True story.  When I learned ink I was working at Starter Sportswear and my first task was to clean all of the buckets.  OK no problem right?  Just give me some rags and some mineral spirits (this was circa 1988).  But noooo. I was given rags and not allowed any chemistry.  Wiped bucket, ran rag down drier, repeat.  Did I mention I had to clean drums the same way.  No ink allowed in drum before putting it on the dock for pick up.  Took me a solid 6 weeks to do it before I was taught inks by C. B. :) :)

Rutland M3 HO yellow, or anything mixed with it. It goes everywhere, and seems to have a drippy, goopy, honey-like mind of it's own. It leaps off the ink knife and onto the screen frame, table, floor, shoe, whatever.

The last time red ink really drove me crazy is when my wife's new kitten got into one of the cans, I took that cat over to the washout sink and went to town washing before she got back.

so after taking part in this thread I took a look around the shop, I know black always seems to be my nemesis, but it looks like, definitely, black on the presses, and white on the floors, hahahahahah. Guess the white takes a little longer to fall off of stuff and the black just flicks off the goop scoops. Our biggest problems happen when pulling ink from a screen and transferring it to the next job's screen, by then it's nice and runny and likes to fall off the ink card fast.

Lately, it seems every ink I touch is a messy ink.  I've dropped four containers this week   >:(

Red ink seems to be my menace.  The press is clean, the screens are clean, my hands are clean......  Dammit where did that red ink come from.  I'm not even printing with red ink.  I couldn't even tell you where the containers of red ink are.  Drives me freaking insane.
