Thanks Greg. Haven't seen ours. Don't even know if I have a subscription though. Seems like ours goes to the Art Dept. Can't imagine what picture they used; they put it in a the last minute.

Nice article Tony. Regarding the RFU's, how many base/pigment ratios after the 50/50? In 5% increments, or more like 10% increments? I don't want to write a book, but I want to have a fair representation to get started with. I'm not sure how much we'll offer to our regulars, but we can certainly consider it for our own designs until we get comfortable with it.

Well we're talking about two different systems. RFU and PC/base. RFUs can be based back as much as you like. Might want to try 20% increments. Remember
less
color results in brighter, cleaner, more pastel colors. Hence refraining from adding white ink or PC. With PCs try 8%/4%/2%. Want a nice Robins egg blue? Try a 2% PC load and ditch the white.
This approach is foreign to many color formulators (who are used to plastisol) and one reason why some of their formulas don't always come up right for some.

Thanks all. Unfortunately all too often I'll leave a shop and they immediately stop using the products. Except here. They continued to use discharge for Gravity here for over 15 ys and it has definitely heped sell the line. Without a doubt. Fact is they hate, hate, hate plastisol. Underbases are evil. Anyway heres a break down on some of the featured art as it was not explained in the article:
Blue Moose is one color cyan DC with a waterwash
TWLOHA is a split fountain one screen
38 Special DC/UB
New Balance is 5 color with halftone blends
Burlesque girl is CYMK seps using spot colors and has a slurry wash
Girl with Rose 65 line halftone white with one screen
Indian Moto Pinup Girl was a proud moment. This was printed for Alternative apparel on their brand new fine gauge line. Back then (9 ys ago) this was though not to be possible. 65 line sim process DC colors. 9 of them and I had to make all of these by eye. This was when we learned to change %s to achieve proper balance in the flesh tones. If anyone has an April 2004 copy a better picture is on the cover. Andy Anderson called it continuous tone and was amazed at the sample. I'll take that compliment any day.

Tony if I had the oven to print DC I would not hesitate thanks to all the information you have provided. I will tell you this tho, if you took the time and made a manual including all the formulations you have recorded and proven to work I would buy it with out even looking at the price. You should consider this.

Thanks man but it would probably never happen The folks here at IBG wouldn't encourage that and many of my formulas use Vivitone PCs. But heres a closeup of Museum of Sex Burlesque Girl for your viewing pleasure. Little out of focus

Good stuff just took a break from job one and read it. Now I want to go home and print! Can you explain how you did the water wash on the moose? Spray bottle, hose, dip?

Got my issue in the mail today and that was the first thing I read. Nice work, Tony. It seemed like you are almost teasing us though. Great to see some of your work in the rags instead of only on the boards. (Nice plug for "The Shirtboard too!) I look forward to reading the rest of your series. I'm old fashioned. This is already torn out of the magazine and in a hanging file folder in my desk.

Thanks again for the kind remarks. The waterwash is done with an industrial spray bottle from Lowes.
