M&R Chameleon Rear Clamp Problem?
« on: April 02, 2013, 11:12:26 AM »
How do you keep the button socket cap screws from backing out on some of the heads. Its the small screws that hold the locking bar to the screen holder. Whenever I tighten them they bind and when they are lose enough to work they just back out when I lock it down. Sure I am missing something just dont know what it is.

Thanks

Not sure if it is the same problem but untrained ops often release the bars before the manual clamps, causing it to bind and separate from the bar

Guess I can post this on M&R site. Thought there were some owners of the Chameleon here or that Rich visited here.

I owned a side-clamp style Chameleon, but looking at a couple pics and the diagram to the back-clamp design, it looks like these are a "set and forget" thing? Unless you have a collection of warped frames...

You should make sure the clamp/screen is level to the pallet, tighten these down and forget about them. (right?) They have a nylon lock nut, so once cinched down tight they shouldn't back out.

It's not like these are used for off contact adjustments like an old Hopkins machine, the off contact is mechanically separate.

Looking at it again, I am certain these are for side to side leveling adjustment only, and they should be tightened down all the way. In fact, I am sure you are sacrificing some registration accuracy if they are not tightened.

The bolts that SHOULD have the tiniest bit of workable movement are the two shaft bolts that hold the angle side screen holders. (the two angle pieces that the screen clamp attaches to) These two bolts also have nylon lock nuts, and act as a pivot for front/back angle adjustment. If they are too tight, you cannot easily (if at all) change the front/back screen angle with the top adjuster knob.

But yeah...side to side angle should be a "locked" thing.
