Clear base
« on: March 15, 2013, 12:23:03 PM »
Someone once asked a while back who prints clear plastisol and why.

I replied that I do and below is why. As you can see it is an extremely detailed badge and has to be Gold Yellow with absolutely no other color involved. The problem is you cannot under base this detail with white, and you cannot hit the gold yellow twice or else the dot gain kills it. It is only a small left chest.

What I do is print a full circle of clear flash it then print the gold yellow one time only through a 305 mesh. Anything less on the mesh and you lose to much detail. The base allows the GY to sit on top and maintain its detail, it also keeps it opaque enough.

Have you tried to use it in place of white to see what it does on other colors?

Yep and unfortunately it doesn't give the opaqueness required on larger blocky areas. On something small and detailed it allows the GY to be bright enough for mine and customers liking.

I was always wanting to test a clear underbase. Never had time. Its cool when you can print something with that small of detail and it all comes out. I did one job that the design of the shirt was on the guys shirt in the design (did you follow that). So the design was Infinitely repeated on the shirt on the shirt on the guy in the design. I was amazed at how small the text was still legible. I got a loop out just to check how far it went.

I've been meaning to get into this because of neon ink sponsors with 4pt text.   Kinda rough running three screens for a one color though.  ;D

That thing is tiny--what, two, two and a half inches?

That's a heck of a print, nice job.

Overall it is 2.75" the small text in the inner circle is just under 3pt.

Thanks

do you find the clear gives a darker tone to the shirt? I would assume on a small print like this it would be hardly noticeable but I could see how clear could make a tone. Nicely done. thinking outside the box.

Discharge that and its only one screen and the yellow would be perfectly bright with no ink gain in one pass, did I just sound like Tony?.

I would love to but we do not have the oven length to realisticly run discharge.

Sam its Unions Barrier clear, its lo-bleed. I think Soft hand would work just as well.

Homer yep it slightly tones the shirt which i actually like, gives it a nice look.
