Is that your Miller 180? Those are some sweet machines, Tig or High Freq. at the push of a button and it will run off 110 volt. Nice work on the frame for the light table I have one like it but with a Plate Maker 1K at the bottom of it, my frame is of 1'' tube steal and I used a mig to weld it out still does the job.

That was a Miller Diversion 165.  Awesome little welder for small stuff and welded aluminum VERY well for such a small machine.  I sold it to a car buddy of mine and bought my other car buddy's L-TEC transformer-based tig rig with water cooled torch and bunch more power but not mobile.  I miss the Miller 165 though!  My cheapie MIG is so inconsistent I use the tig whenever I can.

I do want to build shrouds around the whole thing to keep the blinding to a minimum.  The OLEC is shuttered so when you turn it on the shutter closes and the bulb strikes up to high power 5k, then cycles down to 1k I believe until you start an exposure.  Then shutter opens and goes to 5k then closes.  So a lot less blinding that the metal halide with no shutter lol.

I wish I had half the skills you guys have at building things. I also  wish I had half the time you guys must have to build those things.  I can't build things. I'm an artist. I sit and punch keys and adjust curves all day.  LOL.

That's the flip side, most of us wish we could do the artsy stuff that you do! ;)

ain't that the truth.  what really sucks is my brother in law.  He's one of those guys that learns something in 10 minutes and he can teach a class on it.  He's also a super cool guy, so it's really hard to be jealous.  I wish I had a portion of his coolness.

I enjoy building stuff especially the high end stuff. I am currently teaching welding as a part time morning job and on Mon. & Thur. nights teach 3 hrs to adults. I can and do build alot of stuff from the metal side of things more so than wood. If I cut it too short in metal I just weld a piece on it an make it work. Not a whole lot of Amum. welders out there due to the special machine it takes ( High Freq. ). I really like your design on the light table and etc. Glad to see that there is others on the boards that gets into building thier own gadgets and ideas.

Very cool exposure unit--working on the same type of thing myself.
I'm thinking about just skirting the frame with a blockout cloth, but I'm planning on adding ventilation to push air across the glass.

You doing anything for venting, or does the blower on the lamphead take care of it well enough?

Looks like we are about to build (2) 12 X 36 flash units for a customer... I plan on posting pics, so stay tuned!! I wish I could weld... I can work with wood all day (lol) but the 110 Vac welder I have down stairs just kicks my ass... Nothing but bad welds and splatter everywhere... :(

There is a metal shop near my house that I will bring the cut pieces to have them welded... Should be cool!! Have the angle and height adjustments figured out, just got to get approval on the job.
