Ink Price Check on Aisle 1
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:16:45 AM »
Recently purchased some ink from a longtime supplier and was surprised at the cost. Wilflex Transflex soft Spice Brown was 220.36 for a gallon and Wilflex Transflex Soft Light Gold came in at 124.93......... Is that crazy or what. Contacted One Stroke and they beat them prices to death...... Anyone out there experiencing sticker shock like that?

Yeah, I like everything about Wilflex except the price.  I remember the last time I bought a Wilflex ink, a gallon of genesis super red ran me over $120 and I was done.  I have been using more Union maxo and ultrasoft for most of my spot colors.  I'd like to see how QCM is now since Rutland took over but I haven't bought QCM in well over a year except their 158 & 159 white.

We really like the Wilfex product but sticker shock is too much. I still rely on the epic PC mixing but most pre mixed colors have been coming from Miami including PMS match. The colors we have purchased have all been easy to work with, lay down nice, high opacity and excellent price point. If memory servers me right a 5 gallon pail from Miami cost the same or close to a one gallon pail from Wilflex in most of the colors we have purchased.

You know, I never really considered getting spot colors from Miami, I've stuck with their white ink though.  Brian, so you're saying their colors are as good as their white ink?  Do they have a color chart by any chance?  I don't like ink being 3 days away but I can adapt if the ink is good and the price is right.

I have about 10 colors from them now, mostly our heavy hitters, white, royal, black, national red, a couple of greys, orange,a few pinks and a couple others. They can match a color card but found it easier just to give a PMS number. There was one order we did for russel grey and got sports instead, no biggie it's a common color for us anyway.

I know of three high production shops that have used mostly their colors for years.

As far as shipping we got pretty good of staying on top of inventory and not getting caught short. If we do for some reason I can mix what I need for a job until we get our shipment. We are a two day ship, I guess once you cross the Mississippi you need to add a day of shipping for some reason.

Thanks for the above Allan's comment and the skyrocketing of the US dollar. I finally tried another brand of White Ink which is tonnes cheaper than Wilflex Aritst Plus.

Rutland SF-2. Nice creamy and can easily be printed with SAATI 90/inch (34 micron) on a manual press. (Fill stroke, and print/cut stroke?).
