Is it me.... ??
« on: June 09, 2011, 10:05:35 PM »
I just can't get excited about the new M&R forum style.... there's something about the lay-out that doesn't seem user friendly.
Anybody else have an opinion ?

I haven't a clue how to navigate it, too many clicks to get to a damn forum.

I agree, too much information at one time on the front page, I liked it better when the recent posts were the focus of the front page.

I am the first to admit, that I am often the last to embrace some of this new technology. I struggled with SPOF the first week!
To me, the features sometimes detract from the meat and potatoes I come for. Sort of like the 3D version of last year's Alice in Wonderland. Unnecessary and distracting.

It is gratifying to know that I am not alone. Hopefully, our level of bells and whistles is what our members want and feel comfortable with.

Might I suggest though, that these comments and critiques be politely made to Rich and his forum crew, though, I suspect that he will see them here.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

That's a good point Andy.... 'don't mean to 'dis the new forum. I just thought it was over my capabilities (which happens on a daily basis).

I went

I read BH

I left (no, not because of BH, but because I was unimpressed)

Anybody else have an opinion ?

As a person who spends an inordinate amount of time working on website development and especially "NAVIGATION" features , I too admit that I found the new site to be....for lack of a better word Noisy. Navigation from the top of the site page is clear enough, getting to the forum is only a single click ..but the scrolling instant chat is rather annoying..should be a way to hide it when your not on the forums main page.

Of course all this said I think Amazon.com's website is horrible to navigate and looks bad..but they do several BILLION dollars a year in sales...so who am I to critique them?

On my new website I have spent literally several MONTHS on created a "layered navigation" that refines the pages every time you go one click into a category. The side bar menu options are designed to help you quickly find the exact items as my new site will have over 80,000 products when you include multiple container or package sizes...I am sure M&R will refine the site some as others make suggestions?
Nothing is more difficult than the art of maneuvering for advantageous positions.
