I remember finding SPOF and thinking it had some good (advanced info), before I was playing around in TSF (which I still do and it still has it's place/function).  Then I got caught up in life and didn't go to forums very much.  Then I came back to an entirely different and dead SPOF.

Ended on DS and incidentally learning what had all gone wrong with SPOF... eventually getting "anonymously" invited to this forum (sorry, I don't have anyone that you guys can directly point the finger to for my presence here. :p )

Reminds me of the accusation against us of "e-blasting" their members (stemming from a client list mailing by one of the partners here which inadvertently listed the recipients)
However, that particular choice was completely discounted in our "How did you hear about us?" poll

Regarding the "open" nature of the board in discussion, if I'm not mistaken there were complaints that some were booted off it when it started to deteriorate about a year and a half ago as this one was picking up steam. Probably more than the four who have been disinvited here. So much for the boast of its "open" nature. It was a strange thing to watch someone sH!t in his own hat, though.

The day I was banned for no reason, and I think was over 1 1/2 years ago, was the last I was back and I told P that in an email.  He told me to blame the founders here.

Like anyone could lay blame to Moe, Larry or Curly Joe, lol.

Darryl I agree with your chiding of gossip mongering, but you have to understand that the feelings towards at least one of the newest owners of SPOF run deep and this is at least the third of his forum ventures to apparently fail.
Much like the reported successes of drone strikes or attacks on terrorists, this kind of news brings out a certain pride and even schadenfreude among many here.
Don't forget that it was this guy's antics and business methods that gave us a need to fill, and was the impetus behind the birth of this place.
That said, we also stated in our policy statement that it would not become a magnet for bashing for bashing's sake. Hopefully, threads like this run their course, and fade.

The pokes at P are mere collateral damage in a much bigger war on industry terrorism. Sort of like the property owner of buildings used by the bad guys.

I agree with Frog... this isn't about our-forum-is-better, it's about THAT GUY who deliberately destroyed our original favorite board, TSPMB.com, where most of us met and many of us made a lot of friends, learned a lot and built business networks. The guy is poison to any board he's allowed to post on... and the owners of this board made the wise decision to completely ban him and any mention of his name. TSPMB is still up, and the poison of THAT GUY is so strong, it will never rise again, even though he no longer has anything to do with it.

A little history for those who may not know the depth of all of this... I remember SPOF as having started long ago after certain members of TSPMB were banned for provocative, controversial discussion. (Remember SicGraphix?) The moderators of TSPMB were very tolerant, but when complaints from tender-hearted individuals got too much, I'm sure the pressure to take action was overwhelming. The "open" nature of SPOF was in response to that censorship, but in time those members were so offensive, they were banned from SPOF as well. Business is business, and professionalism trumps free speech when money is on the table and feelings get hurt. SPOF remained popular... a good place to learn... till THAT GUY made a deal with the owners there and drove most of the ones who remembered him and what he did to TSPMB away.

(Also, remember? About that same time SPOF started, a group of us artists started a board called Xlnt Screen Artist's Forum. It was very popular and it's where we met Lemorris, among others. That one got hacked and was never reborn. Lance started one too, but the Facebook-like interface turned a lot of people off, especially those used to the archaic '90s-era forum software of TSPMB)

So THIS forum started round about when THAT GUY came on board SPOF as a member and then he and the SPOF admins began talking crap about this board not allowing them to register. Now he owns the place. So yeah, when we see the SPAM maggots chewing away at the carcass of that once-great forum, allow us a little bit of satisfaction.

NEVER FORGET!
