Too big for their shoes pt 2
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:49:25 PM »
This is actually happening now but lets go back a year. Major apparel mfgr specializing in funky flannel "wearable pajamas" that the H School and College kids love to wear in public. All the rage. Had an s ton of manuals doing the printing but outsourced the 10K- 80K orders and were mainlya a huge bunch of disorganised people stumbling all over eachother. We had the task of organising their chaos which was no easy feat.
Original founder leaves. Company acquires another company that has a collegiate license and a bunch of autos. Moves into a new building and drops in eight autos. At that point I offer to assist with infrastructure of the production floor. I get the "The parents are talking" response (politely). While this is all happening people are being fired and replaced like lasers on vaseline. Install techs and contractors walk out due to lack of planning and constant changes in floor plan. Orders getting behind. Company now refuses to outsource printing due to (look at all this equipment!). Which is not plugged in. Production employees being layed off due to equipment can't be turned on. More quit due to the new commute and lack of transportation. Finally get everything fired up but only enough staff left to run a single auto. Now they must farm out printing but no one in town will touch them as everyone knows they are out of money. Raw materials refuse to take calls or visit as they are out past 190 days.
So my favorite quote of the week is "No one plans to fail they just fail to plan"
Anyone want to guess what happens next?

MK may know they are in his neck of the woods. Oh final note. About five months ago they asked me to come take a look at the mess they created. I replied payment upfront required. Never heard back.

Tony I dont know if you were with them when we did our once and only print job with them. It was a huge order for PJ,s and boxers for a prep school, they wanted the full treatment, butt print/left hip and of course inside seam. It was a nightmare fist getting them to correctly proof the order, then after tons of delays and finally receiving the product it was so horrible we had to give it to the customer a huge discount and lose all our profit. There wasn't even one thought of trying to negotiate with said company knowing their reputation and dealing with their complete incompetence during the proofing stage.

I only contract printed their stuff for them. First discharge on rotary printed flannel goods. They never did figure out how we did it.

I know exactly who they are, I've had a few folks come apply from there as they slowly explode.  I've heard plenty of complaints about them for the last few years.  This is not a shock to me at all.

Just left there.  All is well.  Fully staffed for 1 shift.  Easily 75 cars in parking lot.  Brad, they are wanting to part with the 8 color RPM.

Not really.  I was told they wanted to replace it with an M&R
