I don't think you can make them go away 100%
Libraries are a tool that could be ignored, but they're actually handy sometimes.

I still save everything, like graphics and documents and such
*where I tell it to*, on a second drive, but it could be done on your root drive as well if you work with a single drive.
Then, I use the library as a shortcut ( that's all it really is, it's a secondary listing ) ,adding what folders I want to it.

whereas in XP, I liked to have a couple shortcuts to folders on the desktop.
( come to think of it, I still prefer this, but whatever )
This could be done in 7 or 8 as well, it may add this stuff to the user library, but you could always ignore the library

I don't fully understand the reason behind your question, so, I'm throwing some thoughts out there.
Any of that help?
