What stinks?
« on: October 10, 2012, 10:25:33 AM »
I'll tell you what stinks. It's the embroidered head wear we receive from over seas. It seems to have a very distinct pungent odor. It's bad enough we can't deliver them to our customers. We are trying to find a way to fix this shipment, but I know it will happen again. I'm wondering if anyone else deals with this? My guess is that it's because of the time spent in containers on a ship on the ocean. It's not a mildew smell, but it's not pleasant. We are working with our supplier to resolve the issue. Anyone out there have this happen to them? It's on baseball caps and knit caps.

good luck, my friend had that with some cd cases from an asi vendor.  They were terrible.  I mean horribly bad.

they couldn't fix them, but i think it was because they were vinyl.  cotton should be fairly easy to get the stink out.

try febreeze and an overnight stay in the screen room where it's really dry.

Fabreeze is on my shopping list today. Hadn't thought about the screen room. Thanks

I have never encountered that with any of my imported shipments.....

So it was not the nice smell of spices from Vietnamese food?....lol....

Sandalwood. They burn it as incense. Smells like dog piss to me.

probably a dead stowaway shared your container...he could have had the courtesy to die in a different one.

eww, gross.

also, you could wash them, i wouldn't dry them, but a quick rinse in some soapy water should work.  Then set them out to dry.

You might have to look into Ozone treatment.....Some dry cleaners and most fire/flood restoration companies do it....

Not a bad idea... you could get an ozone generator (good to have anyway) and just put it all in a closed up small room and saturate it with O3.
