My biggest project so far...

Started it on Saturday.

Tired of panelling and brick, kids destroyed carpet.
So I decided to cut the brick wall in half, cover it with tiles and build a mantle on top of it. Panelling will be covered with drywall, easier and it will insulate a bit more
Carper will be replaced by a laminate floor (there is one plank in the first picture together with two tile samples that we are thinking about using).

It will be a few weeks project, I want to do it myself, or at least as much as I can by myself

Yea textured.  Nasty stuff to remove.

popcorn looks kinda like cottage cheese.  stippled are the sharp edges.  don't care for either, but I would take stippled over popcorn any day.

Really there is two types of textured ceilings. One is craftsman style where the craftman actually applies with a trowel in an artistic look, or the nasty sprayed on pop corn style. The biggest issue with pop corn is the peaks always gather the dust and its near impossible to clean. Repainting is a chore and scraping your head on it ugh.

Quick update on this one
I like the results so far, should be all finished up this weekend.
It took forever because as soon I started messing with it, a floodgates opened for the embroidery and screen printing (Which is good )

I still habe to build the mantle that will be hooked up to the piece of wood that I have on a top of the fireplace right now.
BTW, everything was done by me.

I have removed popcorn ceilings in our house and one of our rentals. Its easy. I use my paint sprayer with just water in it. Sock the crap out of the ceiling. Let it sit for 20 mins then come pack in and soak it again. Let it sit for another 20 mins. Then get a ladder and a wide putty knife. Keep the putty knife as level to the ceiling as you can so you don't scrape into the drywall. Don't buy the removal tools they sell with the bag attached to the scrapper with the pole. They are hard to control and you will end up scraping the crap out of the drywall. (you will have to fix that later). It took me about 15 to 30 mins a room to remove it after it was soaked.

Then you just have to let it dry. Get some fast drying mud and fill the screw holes and fix any tape lines. (they do a horrible job with this when they know it was going to get popcorn) Then just texture, prime (you have to do this the texture and much patches will soak up your paid and leave a matte finish. In the building materials area at home depot they sell a PVA Drywall primer that works for this and is supper cheap.
