Discharge underbase and silver shimmer?
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:31:54 PM »
Port PC61s navy blue, I have 625 pieces to run, light blue and silver shimmer. Will a clear discharge underbase work well for the silver shimmer on top? Or maybe a mixture of white and clear discharge?

Hey,
If you are already printing discharge I assume you are printing water base silver shimmer? If not and not in a time crunch get some. Depending on the art and with correct mesh and EOM you can do one hit or print flash print. Super silver and very, very light hand. Our plastisol shimmers have been collecting dust for a couple of years now! If using plastisol shimmer then just use clear discharge. I would not recommend printing that on top of white discharge. No need to.

Yeah Gerry, we did a Union Gold Shimmer the other day with no underbase and it looked fine.

Wouldn't hurt to discharge but certainly won't need a strong white or anything under it.

what mesh are you running the silver shimmer through?

Also how are you coating your screens to run it?

Reason I was thinking of underbasing is because of the light blue going on the navy and maybe giving the shimmer a lil more pop. I was thinking a 180 underbase, 110 shimmer, and 180 on the light blue.
I usually coat my screens 2/1 on the round side.

If you guys think I can get away without the underbase I would definitely forgo that screen. These are due on Wednesday so I really don't have time to get a waterbase shimmer.

We've never underbased silver shimmer. 110s mesh, double stroke if not clearing the mesh.

How about a 110 on both colors without an underbase?

Gerry, I think you know what you need to do for the light blue on Navy... don't short change your knowledge.

Then add that to what you have gained here and I think you have your answer.

FYI, IF you opt to discharge the light blue, then you really might as well discharge the entire thing.  At least I don't see the harm and it might help it pop.

Whose Shimmers are you rolling through that 110/71?  I have my printer go to 90/71 for Ultra Gold and Silver Shimmer, WFX Epic as it eliminates the need to clear the screen and add back base over longer runs.

And yes, no UB on these.

WB shimmers sound great.  Who makes good ones?

I've done Union through a 110 without any issue.  Surprisingly easy... till I put it on the ribbed tanks that it had to ultimately go on. ;)

I hear ya man... I'm the kind of analysis paralysis myself.

I tend to need to bring "get er done" type people into projects with me so that things actually get done! :)

When you get the chance order some metallic water base. I think you will enjoy the hand/results
