Bulk / Refillable Cartridges for Epson 4880
« on: July 11, 2012, 02:27:39 PM »
I've had my Epson 4880 for a couple years now and have been using the All Black cartridge system, however it's expensive to replace when they run empty.  Hopefully you guys out there using the bulk systems can chime in.  I'm hoping to learn what risks are involved with these systems, and if there is anything I need to be aware of if I am to make the switch.

Thanks in advance.

We use the following:

http://store.inkjetcarts.us/epson-pro-4880-refillable-cartridge-set-of-8-p4645.aspx  (Cartridges)

http://store.inkjetcarts.us/screen-positive-black-hybrid-ink-p4487.aspx (ink)

It is pretty straight forward and you can call and speak to Ross as he knows his stuff.  Just make sure you clean off the capping station every so often, but you should be doing that with any ink and not just refillable cartridges.  The only risk is that it voids the warranty but the system you are using I would think does as well.

Try Cobra Ink Systems.  I got mine the other day they  were 300 ml cartridges for around $26. ea.
It's not a job if you love doing it.

See this thread.  I had the same questions with my 4000 which uses the same catridges.
http://www.theshirtboard.com/index.php/topic,3827.0.html

I ended up going with a gallon of this ink:
http://www.inksupply.com/product-details.cfm?pn=D2-GL-K

And refillable carts off Ebay with chip resetter:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-X-Epson-4000-Refillable-Cartridges-Great-Quality-/330630610388?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cfb1ebdd4#ht_720wt_1163

Only thing to note is, after filling up the cartridges and installing them, pop the smaller of the two vent caps on each cartridge so it can breathe.  Didn't do that at first which made pulling in ink impossible for the pump.

Thanks for the info everyone!  I just have a few more questions.

-  Am I required to fill the cartridges up fully, or evenly?  I'm using Accurip, if that's important.
-  Is a chip resetter required for each cartridge, or just per color?  And can they be used multiple times?
-  Dye Based ink seems to be the go-to, right?

Thanks!

I just ordered and installed a set of 8 refillable cartridges from Cobra Ink and 4 bottles of black dye ink.  They sent a chip resetter with it.  You can refill the cartridges while they are in the printer if you order the larger cartridges, you just need to fill them 3/4 of the way approximately.  They where $26 and some change each.  You will need to chip set the cartridges before you put them in the first time and not again until the printer tells you to, but you can use the same chip setter for all of the cartridges.  By the way, the cartridges are clear so you can tell when they are getting low.  You can visit cobra ink here www.cobraink.com

We use cobra for dye and pigment inks for various printers. We fill off the printer cause we're spastic. Cobra sends funnels that fit.
We use the pigment for paper printing cause it is way cheaper than factory carts. Works ok for in house stuff.
Now if we could get free copy paper........
