Online Tshirt Website
« on: May 12, 2011, 11:50:35 AM »
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if there is a generic type website where customers can order and design their garments online. I have seen these companies that offer that service. Customer designs their shirt, pays and then you print and ship. Was just pondering the idea.

The best I have seen.

http://www.bluecotton.com/

It cost him $40k up front and 20 something since.

We paid out of country programmers to make a semi-custom program for us so that we own it and it's on OUR server. We just hated the idea of a monthly fee for something we don't own. I guess that's why I never lease a car! Haha. www.TStudio.CO or www.TheTStudio.com

they're at liveart.com

I thought about that for a moment myself. Then remembered that Eric pointed out that they bought it (and own it) so they can keep it on their own server. That would indicate that Eric owns all rights. So you would purchase from Eric (if he wanted to sell a copy to people). Could be some money to be made?

The programmers would need to create you an entirely new program (although it may likely resemble Erics very much.

That's a good point Dan. I'm not 100% sure on the re-selling rights. What I DO know is that the files are stored on OUR server and we pay no monthly fees. We pay the programmers to work on specific modifications and such, but it's all accessible to us, personally, if we ever became smart enough to work on it ourselves, haha.

The developers sell their "skeleton" version of it, and charge to upgrade/customize from there. I gave you the wrong URL: http://www.developflash.com/

We're probably in the $10,000 mark at this point. We've had a lot of the back-end customized to work with our invoicing/quoting software (fastmanager) to make it easy on us, while also working on other features and functions we've always wanted. There's still more work to be done!

Hope that info helps! My biz partner has been the one leading that project for the most part, so I'm not 100% knowledgeable on ALL the details.

P.S. We had our "designer" designed to resemble close to one of their other clients: http://www.shirtlab.co.uk/LiveArt  We really liked the sleek, simple look, but if you compare, you still see there are many differences in the way ours looks and theirs looks, even though they do the same stuff. I guess it just depends on which programmers you get from their team. ?

I'll post some links from work... been researching it for years.... SGIA sent me their list... I guess they quit doing the deal with expert....

I just wont do anything that has a monthly charge or a percentage... F that!  there are two I am looking at for just under or around 4 grand.

this is the best one I've seen.... it has a backend interface almost identical to Joomla if you've ever used it. Some of these Indian companies just can't make up their minds what it is worth... I blew off one caz he kept changing the price.

P.S.

Most of the developers don't show a price and try to Bull you that  they develop it custom for you...... and offer you charges and what not to set it up.

It's a load of whooie that can be negotiated past... they want to sell it  an need a real buyer and you just have to cut through the dog and pony show they try to put up.

Just to update on this.... We've been running the Bodek & Rhodes free design program... you just need request it if you have an account with them...

Several issues with it most concerning being that people can only get a quote and not actually order.... Our web stat's show that most people jump as soon as they learn that.. even after creating a design.

There are a few more system popping up an so the prices are getting better. I like the t-shirt tools from England....http://www.shirttools.com/
But you can't alter the actual print size.....
If we have not discussed it here... Thomas Knight  the Advanced artist dot com has started an open source free ware version that is showing major promise. but is taking to long for us to wait.....  you can get more info here..... http://opentshirts.org/

I'm glad to announce that we've just purchased the productsdesigher software...... Expensive but nice. The  have recently made a Joomla module version that is built right into Virtuemart. It supports multi color spot eps files for screen printing as well as DTG.
Our should be up and running next week. Stoked!

What's more important, an online designer or instant online pricing?
50% of the time I'm 100% right.

I'd have to say those are two different things..... Both very important, Our new store does both.. you see the price as you go, And it does Spot color vector files for screen printing as well as Digital Direct.

all the time.  I bill them for art and it still comes out cheaper...a lot of the times they are just uploading their crappy jpgs.
