I know nothing of this... but I do have an air cylinder sitting on my desk.

It almost seems like one of the valves isn't opening to let the air to escape... so it pulls a vacuum on the other side and then snaps back.

I know that doesn't help solve anything but someone else might know better of what to look for or do to test that theory out.  Maybe disconnect the line that pushes the cylinder back in and see what it does (should extend with ease and stay there).

that shouldn't cause the head to shuttle back mid stroke I wouldn't think.

If it has a vacuum on the other side then it will pull against it till it can't go any more (might be about mid stroke) then when that other side's valve releases to let the head go back it springs back to a neutral state of pressure on the vacuum side.

Only one head does it. I called M&R and they said it was the sensor but I bought it and put it on and it was not the sensor.

No prob.....try locating it under the machine. You can activate it by pushing the white button on top with a phillips head screwdriver. More than likely it is sticking. Sometimes a dab of oil will free it up or it may need replacing. The chaps over at the blue site can give you more professional advice though.

mac valve was my guess if it was a single head.  it's either sticking(not likely) or the electrical part of it has failed and won't allow it to open and shut properly.  Like tony said, push the white button in and it will flood, let go and it prints...simple.

The reason tony said mac valve is because you can hear a air leak.. its stuck probably due to water in the lines. usually pushing the release may clear it out. a bad prox will act in the same manner but thats not likely the problem..
