Here's My Kickstarter Project...Just Launched...
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:17:25 PM »
Took over a year of designing and manufacturing to get this far but here goes nothing:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/179537728/elliptigrip-spincarrygrip-your-iphone-with-one-fin

Quite a long road to get this far.  It started as the literal napkin sketch. I have become a quasi AutoCad expert and I can now carry a conversation with a materials engineer  :)
If you know of someone who might find it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you would pass it on.
Thank you for taking a look at it.

Now back to my regularly scheduled profession.

That's cool.

FYI, signal is only blocked by metal and water.  So if the case will be ABS plastic like your prototype then you don't need the "antennae" window.

Apple specifies "RF Absorbing Materials" including many plastics.  I'm not 100% what the final material will be yet so I allowed for the opening now rather than design it in later.  I want to give people one less reason not to consider using my thingy.

Probably looking to make sure they can pass the blame on their weak signal. ;)

looks cool!

PS: you spelled 'lose' wrong in the second-to-last sentence.

I use a device that was invented a long time ago...pockets.

Personally, I see that thing working better as a GPS hook.  Maybe sell a small hook that sticks to the back of the rear view so you can hang your phone up and navigate.

I have to prop mine up on the dash...way far out there.  This would be easier.

Brad is on to something there with the GPS angle.

But I think FBP's angle is those times when you are ON your phone and need to free up a hand to open the door or something.  You could hook the phone real quick and get back to business.

I know, you should market it as more than a unitasker.  unitaskers don't sell

Once you've used it, you'll never want to hold your iPhone the "old" way again.  If the loop is there, it gets used without even realizing it.
I suspect it's for heavy iPhone users. You know the ones, those people who seem to ALWAYS be holding their iPhone.
I've had some inquiries for an iPod Touch version already.
The thing still fits in your pocket :)

could you make it fold back when not in use?

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Folding it back is a good idea. Currently, it can unclip when not in use.

I like the folding back as it would not stick out and would be easier to put in the pocket. You could make the ring same shape as the clip-in part so it would fold right around it. Actually, would not even need to clip off if you did it that way.

What about putting a ring on both the top and side? I guess if it is not detaching you would have to.

You could make the ring a solid cast piece and have the top and bottom enclose the pivoting end of the ring with a couple of screws when you are assembling the case. It might be cheaper to make, too.

something like that . . .

I agree with Pierre in having it fold out of the way, I thought from one of the pics that it did that and it folded into a recessed area that was just slightly bigger than the size of the ring and was then hidden inside the phone casing when folded away.  I hate to even sit here and tell you what to do with your already badass idea, because it really is awesome as it is and I LIKE IT!!!

I thought the same thing when I first looked at it... then I saw it clipped in.

Clipping in is interesting, but I probably wouldn't use it because of that.

Also make sure this thing is "otter box" strong otherwise people won't give up their OB for this... I know I wouldn't.
