Cyan Light flashing on Epson 3000

My first instinct is to slap in another cyan cartridge but since it only prints black ink why should it need it.

because if you run the color heads dry it will fry the heads and send an error message.  The ink works as a coolant to keep the heads from over heating.

Fill it with water, or cut the color print head ribbon and tape both ends of it so it won't arc.  2 ribbons go into the head carriage, it's the one closer to the BACK of the printer.  Then you can crack open your cart and remove the bag itself...no more error message.  You can do that with all of your colors as well.

It dawned on me too that when the machine head cleans it probably uses up a certain amount of ink during the process.  I will give it a go.... Thanks!!!

no problem.  I filled mine with water until I put in a new head last week.  Then I just unplugged the head and taped off the contacts and now I have totally empty carts.  It works great.
