Ink for printing on metal??
« on: February 02, 2012, 05:03:49 PM »
What ink would you guys recommend to use for printing on aluminum. I have a customer that wants me to start printing on some pre-cut aluminum ID plates.

Thanks guys

I've always used an enamel ink for metal, check with Nazdar.

you can send nazdar a piece of the aluminum and they will test it and tell you what to use..if there is a coating or something on it be careful.

The 59000 works nice, we use it to print on a bunch of different stuff including aluminum signs, plain and powder coated.

You might also test lacquer. I have used it for years on a variety of metals such as
coated license plate blanks. A little easier to work with than enamal.

We used to use Dexter Hysol 2 part inks, looks that line has been sold:

At my shop we usually use pad printing 2 part inks loaded up with a bit of retarder (butyl cellosolve) but that's just because we have a good selection of pad inks in 5 formulations on hand already.

We usually use an epoxy, either air dry, or preferred, baking epoxy.
