UPS screw up and a A-Hole customer vent
« on: January 28, 2012, 09:53:46 AM »
I sent out 2 boxes at my local UPS hub, I printed out tags from their customer computer each box a different tag. We'll... the clerk sent both boxes to the same person. I realized the screw up the next day after providing my customers with their tracking numbers. We'll by then it was too late. I called the customer recieving both orders and he promptly said "no problem man I'll get it back out the next day" I even paypaled him 2x the shipping cost. We'll it's been 2 weeks now and the customer waiting is still waiting and the guy that recieved the 2 orders is ignoring my emails and phone calls. To make matters worse the customer waiting is a flag football team and they ordered 400 dollars worth of jeresy's. So It looks like Monday I'll have to rush the jerseys here and repay my vinyl guy for new numbers and team names (luckly no names) and reprint the t-shirt portion of the order.

I know it's not the guy that recieved the orders responsibility but you know you just hope people would do the right thing! Now he's stealing from me 2 fold by keeping my shipping money.

A further kick in the nuts is that both customers are long time returning customers and I'll probably lose both.

This is bullshiit in the 3rd degree...  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

If you have known me for awhile I posted a simular UPS screw up a few years ago... way worse.. 4 orders 4 boxes 4 customers all 4 went to the same person in NC. Reprinted 1 order, refunded another and pissed off the 3rd customer. I lost so much money and future money from repeat business. UPS wouldnt do shiit about it. They billed me to fix their screw ups then got a debt collector after me when I refused to pay. So freaking heated!!!

The ladies at UPS know me by name, I'm there just about every day . Just around the corner from my shop so I don't mind going there in person. They know the deal... I'm the freakin' "SHIRT GUY" lol ...

Shaun I you screwd up...you should have had UPS do a pick up at the 2 box guy and redeliver to the correct address as the tag you printed indicated.
UPS SCREWUP =UPS FIX. all 2 box guy would have to do is hand off a box to a UPS driver. i know hind site is better than 20/20  but why do you pay again and fix for a service you paid UPS to provide

DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES COMPLETELY WITHIN MY CONTROL YOU SHOULD GET YOUR OWN TEE SHIRT AND A SHARPIE MARKER BY NOON TOMORROW OR SIMPLY CALL SOMEONE WHO GIVES A SHIRT.

yeah we tried that for the first screw up and they never came to pick them up so this time I thought "screw that... I'll paypal you money and ship em back out" you know avoid the BS.  And like I mentioned with the 1st screw up ordeal they billed me and refused to admit they screwed up even though sure enough the original tags with each correct address was still on the boxes. Instead of sending them to the correct places they sent em back to me!

Your damned if you do damned if you dont... Always double check the clerks work from now on even if it seems like I'm being an a-hole I guess.

Worst case, you can schedule a UPS pickup from your customers place.

You need to setup an online UPS account.  They send you labels for free.  You can either schedule a pickup, or drop them off at teh UPS store.  You don't even wait in line at the UPS store, just set it on the counter and go.

You don't need a world ship account, just a basic one.  It costs nothing....you do not need a daily pickup.

Sorry this happened shawn, but it's your fault for relying on a counter rep from UPS....twice.

Also, you should have scheduled the pickup at your customer so they wouldn't have to do your work.

You have the worst luck. John Sheridan is offering up his services. I suggest you fly him out and let him look over your whole operation. Sorry to be a dick but you need some help. You have had so many issues over the years I feel for you. Again not trying to be a dick just help out. You have survived this long with some issues and just think how much more you could make by letting John show you the ropes.

something is screwy here. . .this doesn't add up. Did you make out 2 labels for 2 addresses and ups left both boxes at the same address? am I reading that right? we ship daily and this has never happened - ever. set up an account and make the labels at your shop, screw counting on other people to do their job. If this happened to you once before -I sure as hell would do everything in my power to make sure it never happened again.

sorry dude,
We ship and receive UPS daily.  I can think of 2 lost packages in 15 years.  And they called and knew the package was missing or missing it's contents.  We ship UPS red daily, an it never gets messed up.
Sorry for your problems, but something is'nt adding up?

well what happened was I made 2 mini tags that print off the their customer computer , then the clerk scans the tags and slaps on the bigger shipping label, we'll she must have scanned the first one and figured both boxes were going to the same place. We were probably to busy talking about BS like the odd winter we are having or something and I never caught the slip up.

when your done beating yourself dizzy, go to ups.com and make up an account, print your own shipping labels from your shop where your not so distracted talking to the ladies. . .

oh, and that customer that stole your box - send him another package full of dog poop.

shaun you can set-up  UPSworldship from your computer using a debit or creditcard. then download the software and order a thermal printer and free supplies. the thermal costs me 2.00 a month with free lables. also set your daily pick-up as a smart pick-up account so they only come when you run a label by 3:30. its automatic and is only 10 bucks a month instead of 20.even if you ship everyday. saves a bunch of headachs for whatever reason.

I learned the hard way to never, EVER trust the idiot behind the counter. If you can run a screen printing business, that already makes you 1000% more qualified to handle shipping duties than a UPS or Fedex counter person.

Case in point:
I just happened to be going by a Fedex/Kinkos after printing some one-off shirts for a band. It was a special set of shows. My laser printer was out of toner so instead of getting a new cartridge I just went to the Fedex counter.

I filled out the little slips, double (triple) checked all the addresses. All good to go. (it was 6 boxes of shirts going to 3 cities)

Well the clerk, to verify all the addresses in their system, punched in the recipient's phone numbers. If the phone number was already in their system, they didn't have to fill in all the address info, it would auto-fill it for them.

So the first two boxes get sent to the recipient's OLD ADDRESS, which of course now is a completely different business. Which of course accepted the package and then closed early that day.

Band is only in town one day, their shirts are locked up at the old address, they lose a few thousand in merch sales for that night. The merch is basically un-sellable after the fact, as the design included the date and city for that night only.

Moral of the story: make sure ONLY you or one of your employees prints and double checks the applies the labels. ALWAYS.
There is scarcely anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse, and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey.
John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)
