Separation of a painting- 13 color [Santa's Naughty List]
« on: January 13, 2012, 12:09:04 PM »
Here is a separation that id like to share.  It was a challenging one as it is an actual painting.
Most of the colors seemed to be in the same range of reds and browns,  so i needed to manually cut masks in order to keep the flesh colors and browns away from the reds.

base white
grey
blue
green
brown + dark brown
flesh + light flesh
red + dark red
yellow
highlight white
black

Here is .gif showing the masks and sequence of the colors going down.

NICE.  Good to see your work again.

Colors close to each other in tone get difficult. Especially if they softly fade into one another in large areas. Can't mask those out so you have to finagle it one way er nother. It's nice to be able to use that many colors. Most eveyone wants less and less colors. I'm working with a customer that has an 18 color press, so I should be able to get the full potential of a job with them. Even they want to stay around 12 but hey, thats better than four.  LOL.

HAHA.  One more tid bit.  I think if you look real hard at that Santa, you might see that he resembles our own FROG here. In fact, I think he may have posed for that shot. He's in Cali ya know.  ;)
