Replacement Blanket for Exposure Unit 1/12
« on: January 12, 2021, 10:50:01 AM »
Happy New Year!

Hoping someone might have a lead on replacement blanket for our Starlight...
Would go straight to M&R - but the cost ($600 +) seems a little top heavy..
We just need the blanket, and not the entire bracket package (which is the only option @ M&R)

Thanks in advance. - John

A rubber pond liner will do the job...

Years ago, this used to be the place for blanket material. https://www.foamorder.com/neoprene/neoprene.html

For all kinds of rubber (and similar) products, check out https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tn/Raw-Materials/Rubber/Rubber-Sheets?navid=12101792
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

we were doing the pond liner and neoprene for years and finally spent the money and got the right thing. Makes a big difference in the amount of headache. Got ours from Douthitt.

Ha, we went the other way around, using $600 replacements, until we tried the pond liners for $40, enough to do our giant wall mount twice...

When planning to replace the vacuum lid with a material that is not the "original replacement material", such as pond liner or even neoprene rubber, what thickness (mil, fraction of inch, etc) is being used?  Backing or smooth?

I used this guy for both my vastex and m&r. Both are working great and it has been at least 2 - 3 years.https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_id=233003407242&_nkw=Cc+Vacuum+Exposure+Unit+blanket-BETTER+THAN+NEOPRENE-42%22+x+51%22

that's the pond liner. it works OK. a little stiff compared to the real thing.

I'm using 60 mil with a smooth back.... got it free from roofing scrap. Works fine for my needs, but I have no idea if using a foam offers stencil improvement that justifies it's extra cost.

60 mil EPDM sells for about a $1/sq' on Amazon (but requires a purchase of 125 to 150 sq' minimum).
Shipping is free, of course, if you are a Prime customer.
