If he really meant it he would have asked to meet with Sophia at the shop and had an opportunity to show his remorse and the quality of his fabric in person.
Everyone makes mistakes , flies off the handle, say things we later regret . The measure of true sincerity would be to have the backbone to let Sophia look into his eyes and give her every opportunity to accept and wipe away the entire experience.
My guess he was saving his ass with the club and more over and important to him his PGA card.
In these days when the Washing RED SKINS and Cleveland Indians suffer public pressure from a up until now an honored way of extending pride and strength  should have brought a greater measure of apology. I would believe that was penned with one arm twisted behind his back.

This reminds me of when I worked at a parts house, customer which was a pastor, needed some plumbing parts and had the old parts in his hand, and after a few minutes of talking ( I guess he felt I knew what I was talking about) he hauls off and tell me yeah the guy that did this just nigger-rigged it up.  He caught himself, started turning red and then started the old apology stuff, he tried so hard to correct himself it actual started pissing me off, I'm like sir lets just get your parts so you can fix your plumbing the correct way.

Sayings like that and some others were so often used at one time it became normal to use them, I think a lot of people used them not with ill intent but out of common use. Fortunately a lot of those sayings are dissapearing as we become more of a "Woke" society lol. I will say I am 100% non politically correct ever, I choose to use words and sayings I mean I choose not to use them out of common sense and respect, not because some white SJW that grew up in the burbs tells me its wrong. When with friends of different shades none of us act politically correct we mess with each other because we are friends and know none of us mean it literally. I  admin one of my cities face book pages and its is so hostile since Trump took office, every single word written and posted by anyone is dissected and thrown back in their face, one side will call everyone that they do not agree with racists and homophobes, the other side calls all of them libtards and communists. It used to be entertaning but after seeing it for so long its saddening that we have gone so far backwards where we are at the point everyone labels everyone else. I have been called a homophobe so many times I forgot, not because I make derragotory statements about gay people, not because I call them slurs, not because I actively try to hurt them in some way, no but simply because I debate some of the issues and because I do  not align exactly with them I am homophobe, even tho I tell them till I am blue in the face I support the lgbt, I support same sex marriage, I support no discrimination against them, they do not care.

Darryl, there are a lot of idioms that are really dated and offensive to others.  It sounds like that guy let it slip accidentally and actually felt bad.  On the bright side maybe that was the last time he used that word.

I mean, I stopped making jokes about getting pregnant after your married when I made that joke at a dinner party next to a couple that got married because she was preggers.  My wife bruised my leg she grabbed me so hard under the table.  I mean the wife was holding her infant daughter in her arms and I let that one out....man, that was bad.
