Announcement-Buying a New Dryer
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:55:00 PM »
Our new dryer is on it's way to our shop as of today.  After much deliberation and consideration, we decided to buy a new dryer to help us move onward and upward.  We will be doubling our production capabilities with plastisol and tripling with discharge/waterbase.  Our old dryer could have likely lasted another 20 years but it was very inefficient and was beginning to have more and more electrical gremlins popping up.  A few years ago if we were down for a day or two, we could catch back up in the same amount of time, but if we were down for a day this past year, we would have been in real trouble and it could have cost us dearly.  Plus the amount of money we are going to be paying per month is likely going to be offset by the savings we will have in electricity and gas.  Our dryer now is responsible for about 80% of our $1100-1200/month electricity bill and that should drop considerably since we'll be getting rid of those radiant panels running at 900 degrees for 9 hours a day.

We ended up getting an M&R Sprint International, 60" belt width, 8' infeed/outfeed and 12' heat chamber.  I cannot wait to see what this thing has and I'll be taking many pics of the install and I look forward to giving a straight up and honest review of the dryer. I think it is going to be one hell of a piece of equipment and it will fit right in next to our auto and will put us in a category of shop that is truly lucky to have such great equipment.  We are blessed to be able to come to work and operate the machines that we have and I hope to never take it for granted.  I'd like to thank Rich Hoffman for taking the time out of his busy days to help us decide which dryer would be best for us and the whole crew at M&R has been great to work with.  Monty Bartel and Jose Tejada did a great job of communicating with me and helping me get everything ready on my end.  This is the first piece of equipment for us to buy from M&R and the way the transaction and business went down makes me think it won't be the last.  There is a damn good reason why they are what they are and I appreciate that kind of service and look forward to using their equipment to the fullest of it's capabilities.

Thanks to M&R and Rich Hoffman.

Pics will be here soon after I open that trailer door.  I've said this a few times before but there is no better day at a screen printing shop than getting a major piece of equipment.  I can't wait.

Alan,

After a 20 year old dryer anything will save you money on running costs. Make sure to keep track of the power usage and gas usage. I am really interested in seeing that. I have a 52 inch wide belt electric dryer now and I am thinking about going with a gas dryer in the next year or so. I think the M&R dryer are really nice. Sounds like you got a monster 8’ in 12’ of heat and 8’ out? Or is that 4’ in and 4’ out.  I don't know what insulation they use but the tops are very cool to the touch. Sounds like a fun new toy.

Will it be installed by the time you do the workshop?

...Alan....i am dangerously close to signing a lease on a bigger building, and am thinkin it might be time to upgrade to a gas dryer too while I'm movin. Ive got my eye on that Boomerang they have as a demo, but I kinda have some needs and questions about it. Did you just call Rich directly? Thats kinda how I would feel better about making this leap. Rich, If you read this, is that cool to do?
Thanks TSB gang!!

One more sign that Alan is not dumb.

Dude your gonna love it. We love our sprint, just set it and forget it. We use to have a little electric ranar with 4 feet of heat. Our gas sprint with 8 feet of heat costs us WAY less to run. It's one of our favorite pieces of equipment!

I can't wait to fire it up.  Everyone here has no idea what's coming, they just think we are getting a new dryer and it's going to be just like our old one, but they'll be pleasantly surprised.

The dryer will be here first thing Monday morning.  I've got the forklift coming tomorrow afternoon and we will be breaking down our old dryer and moving it out of the way.  I can't wait to start taking some pics of all the action.

Pretty jealous!  I'm seriously considering upgrading when I have my gas line put in in two weeks.  Had pricing from Interchange but also will get pricing from M&R.  Take pics and post them!!

There is an interchange coming to town in a few weeks so I'll go take a look at it for you if you haven't been up close and personal with one.  I haven't seen one in person yet and even though we didn't buy one I'd like to know what kind of dryer they are.
