Anyone else making masks?
« on: April 10, 2020, 08:12:06 PM »
How are you making out? Running out of supplies yet? I'm hoping my supply of 1/4" comes in Monday, I was hearing  stories of really long delays so I ordered another 1200 yards for delivery next Friday.......We are absolutely buried, I had to ask for more help to come in... It's so strange to be making these but I'll be damned if we aren't making one hell of a nice mask....
...keep doing what you're doing, you'll only get what you've got...

most are seeing supply chain issues depending on the materials they are using.

*Disclaimer - Ryonet/Allmade masks - I used to work there - currently laid off*

Ryan has been posting info about getting materials together - stuff has gone up quite a bit and is in short supply.

If you can get it - buy it and make them.  Everyone wants them.

Still waiting for a print shop to make a Dye Sub / DTG front for customers.  Maybe I just havnt seen it yet.
Been in the industry since 1996.  5+ years with QCM Inks.  Been a part of shops of all sizes and abilities both as a printer and as an Artist/separator.  I am now the Ink and Chemical Product Manager at Ryonet.

We're making the same masks as Bella+Canvas. Got the design and are making a few hundred masks a day to serve our local market. Our cost on these is 0 as we're using leftovers and ruined garments. It's close to be our only source of income as of now.

Would you mind sharing design/pattern of this mask?

Curious as to how everyone is cutting the fabric.

A gerber style cutter sounds nice right about now.

I've read polyester (for dye sub) is not ideal for the masks and being suggested against.

Basically where we are sitting. We have "Orders" for about 600 hundred and we only floated the idea by 2 customers. We have a ton of them already sewn and cut, just waiting on elastic. I think at this point I have orderd about 2,500 yards, but each day goes by and another "missed" delivery. I pay on our credit card so I'm not out the money, the card company has been awesome about that. Just more frustrating not being able to get my hands on elastic!

Hopefully I'll never have to grow up and get a real job...

Where I live, there is a group that is making scrub bags for the Dr's & nurses so they can wash their scrubs(or other garments) to help reduce the risk of exposure to the rest of their family.

A couple of options you might want to look at if you can't get the elastic.
Shock cord (like around the bottom of jackets etc), or if you have to make ties, look at bias tape. It comes folded and all you have to do is sew it on. Faster then trying to make your own ties.
Just a thought.

The Town supervisor said its a lot of businesses calling in about other businesses, not the average joe turning you in.
