Help Identifying my dryer?
« on: March 04, 2020, 08:40:25 PM »
Long story short.. Couple years ago I bought out a shop.. Now moving into 6000 square foot space. I have to run air and electric about 125 feet..
I can't find ANY info at all ANYWHERE on my dryer..
Says its an Aquacure By Hopkins? (1994) I'm assuming that its rebranded?
I need to see what wiring to run and maybe how to convert it to 3 Phase? The plate makes me think it can be done..
Right now it's running on a 220 line for the heat and a 115 for the belt and controller...I think?
Thanks in advance!

Rockers!
You are correct on all. Open front of electrical control box and take some pics of the wiring inside
Sounds as if they did not use a transformer to provide separate 115 v power to belt motor. Not legal today
But has been done in the past. If so i would install small transformer to accommodate $40 or less.
Depending on pics, i would assume you will have a spare main terminal block. Look and see how many elements are in the dryer. Pics of control box will tell all. Upon seeing pics, i will advise.
Easy peazy for you!

It looks like a repainted older National dryer. It may have been purple at one time

Hopkins did indeed make dryers for awhile, particularly electric ones with a lot of air movement,
which is what this looks like.

Winstons got you covered on conversion, but I'll add in weighing the time and expense of doing so
vs finding a larger gas dryer which is what you'll likely want eventually anyways.

Thanks for the reply’s!!!  So.. if I kept it as is now in the new space until I get a newer dryer... would I just need to buy wire that is rated for 60 Amps? I think it’s 4/3 or can I go with a different wire?
The bottom 2 breaker in this photo are the dryer now.

I think your supposed to be a licensed electrician to run the line for that, not that I haven't  done a fair amount of DIY myself. I just thought I would bring that up...

Agreed, I wouldn’t want to play with that.

But the real reason I came in here is to say how impressed I am that Winston ALWAYS has an answer for dryer related questions. The king!

Yep... I’m just going to run the wire.... and pull “to” the box. I’m not going into a 400 amp 3 phase panel. EVER! Lol  I’ll have an actual electrician do that part.

Ask your electrician what size wire.  There are other things to account for other than straight amps.

You can run it and have them do the final tie in, but you don't want to run the wrong wire only to have to do it twice.

agreed.

sometimes the distance from the breaker panel can change your wire gauge.
