Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI adapters/New Laptop
« on: July 16, 2018, 09:57:05 PM »
So, anyone out there with a  tablet or 2 in 1 that doesn't have an HDMI port but uses an adapter to hook up to a TV or monitor?
Are these cables and/or adapters pretty cut and dry? Something like this okay?

That looks like that one is designed for IMAC or MacBook.

Are you using a MAC?

If not, something here may fit your needs.

Some 2 in 1's like the Dell XPS have eliminated the HDMI, but have the Thunderbolt 3, which, is apparently interchangeable with USB-C.
Both apparently also called mini display port.

Mini display ports are different from usb-c. Thunderbolt 2 had the mini display port form factor a few years ago and since the introduction of thunderbolt 3 it has taken on the usb-c form factor.

You'll want something like this:

or

Hope that helps!

I'm always reminded of this, because it's true.

So true, but at least I have actually seen improvement over the years in many of these adopted "standards" (unlike the superior Beta which lost out to VHS, and the four track cartridges which lost to the eight tracks back in the '60's)

My search for a new laptop is indeed both eye opening and mind numbing! I know my minimum requirements :i7 or equivalent AMD processor, 16GB of memory, 256 SSD. Heck, until looking, I didn't even think about touch screens or 2 in 1's. Now I'm intrigued.
