Epson P800 nightmare

Hey all,

I just received my P800 Standard Edition in the mail only to realize that it doesn't work with Accurip Black Pearl. It's only compatible with Black Pearl SE, which CANNOT be sold separately or upgraded to. It MUST be bundled with the printer. I decided to get the P800 Standard Edition rather than the Screen Print Edition because I already own Accurip. Little did I know that it would only be compatible with Accurip SE. So now I have to return this printer and decide to either bite the bullet and buy the Screen Print Edition ($600 more than Standard) or choose another printer that will work with my version of Accurip. What a headache.

Is there an older Epson printer for $1000 or less that I should look at? There are so many out there and I don't know which ones have the capability to print all black for film output. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it! My 1430 is on it's way to the grave and I need to act on something quick. Really bummed that this P800 doesn't work with my version of Accurip

I would skip that P800 entirely.  T3270 or another 1430, although I hear the the 1430 is getting an update.  T3270 has it's own problems but running on accurip is not one of them.

woof, yeah they must be disco'd, $900 on amazon right now.  That was my backup printer go to.

yeah those jacked-up prices on discontinued items are just plain silly. I suppose that folks figure there'e nothing lost in offering them like this for the folks who absolutely loved the old one they had and will pay through the nose!
Saw that happen with my WF1100. Down to less than $100 as they were being phased out, and then north of $650 by 3rd parties when its replacement wasn't everybody's cup of tea.

Hoping to get a few more years out of my 3000's. By the time they give it up maybe all the bugs will be worked out of the T3270.

the problems on the t3270 must be intermittent.  Ive had mine for 3 months, and Ive had no issues.

Zoo did you get a demo of the cadlink rip? to see if that helped the problems?

make sure you get the version 10, it was just released! Lot less clunky than the V3 we were using.

you can have two different types of printing ink in there? How does that work?  With the 1430 unavailable I am starting to look for a new printer and this sounds kinda sweet.

The T3270 has  five cassettes, CYM and two Blacks.(Matt and Glossy)
I have CYMK set up with Sublimation and use Accurip Black Pearl (older versions are not compatible with this printer) to print black on film from the second black head.
I use bulk cassettes.
I’ve had it said up for a year and am happy with the results on both these media.     I haven’t really tested but have not noticed any registration problems.

I bought our T3270 without Black Pearl, and having been an AccuRIP owner for years, they gave me an upgrade, for short money as opposed to full price. I almost went with the P800 until I reads the specs and saw how SLOW it was. The T3270 outputs much faster.

Seems like most of you are happy with the T3270. Wish my budget allowed for that. I'm returning the P800 since there's no way for me to upgrade to Black Pearl SE. I picked up a used Epson 9600 over the weekend for $350, so I'll see how that works out for now. Had to act on something quick since my 1430 keeps spewing ink all over the film and makes the edges of my art look like it was cut with a dull blade. If anyone has any experience with the 9600, let me know if you have any tips or suggestions!
