Yeah, they make a good chunk of change licensing it to other companies and vendors around the world. Besides shirts and coffee Mugs, it’s gone on credit cards, water bottles, etc.
it’s the best known image associated with NYC and I’m sure they aren't to keen on other cities/corporations copying it.
They don’t seem to go after small variations but aggressively go after big companies like adidas when they try to use it or a variation in a campaign or something.
And funny enough, the guy who designed it, Milton Glaser never got paid for it.
