Films off register. Really.

So, I expected their might be a very small issue with registration on this Epson 1430 and of course, it's true. Not major, but just enough to irritate me.  IN this pic, I intentionally slif the film over just enough to start to see the peak of it being miss aligned or showing the under film outline end.


Having done this, I look to the left reggie and without a loop, it looks pretty close to being in register, while the one on the right...is out.  Under a loop, you can see that it's def out. Maybe a 1/64th" or more.


Printer is warmed up, Films are sturdy.  Just something mechanically off in the math I assume.




To add to that, there is this matter of (printer resolution).   You see how these registration marks are really made up of little round dots stacked vertically, causing an irregular shape to the sides of my line.  This is vector art from Illy. Printed via Accurip...to Epson 1430.  Pretty shabby if you ask me... as I expected better, and this is another reason why I say ink res, does not mean (image quality). It means (to us printers), more film coverage or density. It's a 300 dpi printer...so I want a 600. lol.

Well, I have to say that, printing directly from CorelDRAW or Photoshop or occasionally through Ghost, on my humble WF1100, not only do I not have this issue but once got my mind blown when I was actually able to run a film through a second time after adding a missing component, and everything lined up! (I'm sure that perfect alignment of the paper side guides in this instance helped.)
I know that others out there are working with 1430's, so this has to be fixable.

Worst case. Epson has the refurb 1430's with full warranty on their website for 199.00

Printer dots, DPI... and Dan, how come you can't increase the resolution that the printer is printing at? I think you should be able to with the Epson Printer Utility... or, if you're using say, AccuRIP, you can set the printer resolution using Setup under the File menu in AR... our 3800 is at 1440 x 720...

Dan in what direction are they off? Is it in the direction of the feed? If so, I would think that there are issues with the drive rollers.

Had that happen today on some film, it's how the printer pulls the film in, or the film's edge is not even/square   line up your films and check the edge before you print them.

I meant to say the single sheet feed from the back of the printer. When we used to use sheets
that was the only way we could get it to feed correctly and consequently register sheet to sheet.

Printer ink resolution is (ink density) as in (how many times it goes over a given area) to build up density. If it were full color, think of it as saturation of the ink onto the print. Making it more vivid.  I confirmed with with Epson Tech support.

So, the 720 x720, the 1440x 720, and the 5760 X 1440 only pertain to ink laydown. Not image detail (I guess).  I assume even Epson loosely refers to the standard ink laydown options as (DPI) but then in other literature, and in my email they contradict that. Sooo.  They tell me that the SUPUR COLOR printer is what I want.  SO check this out.


Epson 1430 highest = 5760 X 1440 max. and theSureColor P800 I'm told, prints at a max of 2880 x 1440 dpi and IT, is supposed to be) a higher DPI printer than the Epson 1430.  ?


I'm also told that on a PC it doesnt show as (DPI) and in order to change to a higher resolution DPI, you need to change the PAPER TYPE.  On a Mac, it clearly says image resolution rather than "paper".

We saw this on our old 4800 and see it on our current 4880. Good luck figuring it out.
