Interesting American Apparel/Dov Charney insight
« on: December 29, 2016, 11:08:12 AM »
A podcast I listen to is doing like a 6 or 7 part series with Dov Charney. Following him along with his new company. Interesting stuff. Starts at season 4 episode 4 -

These podcasts are awesome, a few people from our shop have listened to them.  The part where the board moves to fire Dov is one of my favorite parts.  They start the series off talking about Los Angeles apparel but spend the majority of the time talking about the downfall of AA and that's one of my only complaints.  He's struck a deal with TSC and you can get his heavyweight hoodies already, the shirts will land in TSC warehouses in 2017.  I bet they'll have samples of the new line at the TSC booth at ISS.  They say he's already up to $1m in sales and he's got 60 employees already!

His new company is Los Angeles Apparel.  You can't really buy it anywhere yet besides the few pieces at TSC, they don't have a website and he's only selling to friends at the moment.

The same place Spectra fits, just another company with no association. US Blanks has been around for years.

So the weird thing is, I can't think of 1 customer I'd be able to sell a rough heavy feeling shirt to... Not to mention the hoodies that TSC has are DAMN expensive! Who knows though, he has the hustle without a doubt!

I've got a sample of that pullover hoodie and it's similar to the Champion S1051, just insanely heavy.  It's about the same price as that Champion but USA-made, both are around $26, so comparatively it's not too high.  Here's a pic of the label

So then when you are tearing out the tags for re labeling, you know who's hard work you are re selling!

He could go fun with it and make yearly sets, like baseball cards! "I collected the whole cutting dept. of 2017!"  ;D

The guy he planted at the FedEx drop off local was genius. The employee sex stuff, very not genius.

Amazon's bid would be interesting considering they were trying to get a piece of the  Zazzle/Cafepress DTG market awhile ago
