Labelling Screens
« on: December 15, 2016, 01:15:54 PM »
how do you do it? I've seen labels with the mesh count with some sort of tape over that. what works, how long can you expect it to last?

we run statics only. we currently just write the mesh count/dia on each screen on both sides with a decent dye ink marker.

but 701 takes that stuff right off.

we hand apply 701, emulsion remover, degreaser. but we DO have a dip tank filled with water for a quick soak before sprayout when exposing.

picture is brand new screens, that's my shop christmas present (and a vastex semi-auto coater, need to hire a new screen guy...), they are never again that clean and nice.

We use different colored strips of electrical tape for each mesh count.  Stays on great and is easy to decipher from a distance.

we ordered labels from discount labels.  We got the extended life decals and ordered a 1"x8" label done like this:
60 110 155w 155y 230 305

then we just cut them apart and apply.

We use colored duct tape - stays on newmans and statics for quite a while, not perfect and does have edge come up after a ton of use but works well enough.

We also have barcodes with the number below for updating where screens are in the process, what they are used for, when the last retension was, etc.

a sharpie seems to work well here. doesnt come off at all. clearly written with which mesh count. written right on the side where the mesh is glued to the fame.

We use it on Newmans but I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used on statics as well.  And we have no issues with stickiness, even with a dip tank in use.  I've seen the electrical tape hold up longer than the Polyken on multiple occasions.

Strip on the right is mesh count, square on the left has to do with the last time it was retensioned.  We have 7 colors in use for mesh count.

high tack vinyl cut in various shapes. A triangle is 230, circle is 305 etc. we can see this in the dark room, we can't decipher color as easily.

I made a template out of cardboard and I spray a color square on either end of the screen, color coded for the screen mesh.    This doesn't wash off, even in a dip tank.
I off center the square so I can see it on the press, on the MHM you cannot see the center on the screen when it's on the press.

some time ago someone posted similar but you might try these.  https://www.uline.com/BL_1701/Sharpie-Industrial-Markers?pricode=WA3664&gclid=CKjE9v6o99ACFU9MDQodNhgA_g&gclsrc=aw.ds
Also we find that if you simply cover the marker print with simple clear packing tape it lasts pretty much forever.
We do not dip tank and use franmar products and the tape simply holds up
The other think we fine works really well is everyday sign vinyl , like Oracal  vinyl http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281024271486?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true  Differen colors mean different mesh counts make a chart.
