Long Beach 2017 attendance and accomodation
« on: October 17, 2016, 04:24:29 AM »
I am making plans to come to Long Beach in January.
Can anybody recommend a decent hotel that's not too expensive?
At the moment I'm looking at the Best Western.
Who else is planning on coming this year?

We have stayed at the best western before. It is not to bad, last few years we stayed at the courtyard across the street.
Anything in town there is walking to everything and would be a good choice.

The Varden is cheap and is one of those boutique hotels, the rooms are small and minimalistic, so just a good place to keep your stuff and sleep.  TripAdvisor has it as the #1 hotel in Long Beach for some reason.  We stayed there for ISS a few years ago and it was about a 15-20 min walk to the convention center.  It was cool and I'd recommend it if price is your #1 concern.

Really want to make it (for the first time) this year.  At what point do the hotels start getting booked up?

I'd book early.  The Hyatt Pike tends to sell out every year, and we usually book our accommodations as early as possible through hotels.com.  There's no financial obligation until about a week prior, so if you wanted you could pre-book all the hotels you are considering and then cancel everything the week before you go.

On another note, it looks like this year they are expecting to have the floor space maxed out and opening up a new area to booths.  Check out the map -

Always book early as everything close to the convention center sells out quickly

Kings fish really is a good place. We should get the banquet room as we we had 30 ish ppl last year at a long table, conversation was limited to who sat across from you.

Something about a limited menu for large groups. I'm ok with that if we have a large  type room that's just us.

I used the online booking and name dropped for the evening of the 20th at 730 for 30 to 50 people.

I name-dropped for us and passed the info on to more important people. it is a banquet room it is a set menu that reflects the same thing being served in the main dining room same portion size, it could be buffett style or course oriented and can  hold up 70 people.
