Great idea.  Except everyone wants a 'vintage' shirt so you'll need to recreate the original and then mess it up to be 'vintage' again.

Copyright stuff aside (I have no idea how that works, you are allowed to make a backup copy of software)
my friends ask me to do this all the time. Usually shirts of bands that no longer exist, barely
hanging on by a thread. So there definitely is a market for it. I always mention the copyright thing
and the response is always "I already have one and I'm just restoring it".

There's a couple shops around here that print and sell shirts of bands that no longer exist. That to me
is an outright no-no, even if they are defunct.

Yeah, we already do that. Now we can go both directions. Got the whole gamut covered! We actually have people bringing in the oldest deadest shirts you've ever seen. They cannot find replacements anywhere.... typically it is the wife who has tried to throught the thing away only to have the husband scream about his favorite shirt....

:o So that Fruit-like named high tech store in China should have billed themselves as high tech device restoration rather than selling their bootlegs as legitimate Apple. Then there would not have been an issue? I don't think so. :o Certainly filling a need, but not exactly worthy of the

Look, I love the idea, but it is not a "restoration", it's a copy.

I have to walk this tightrope weekly, if not daily sometimes. Digital, direct or transfer, makes it easier to copy an existing design, not more legitimate.

In the end, if you accept insect wisdom, you can just follow Jiminy's advice and let your conscience be your guide.

Conscience wise I would have no problem printing one shirt for my friend who's favorite shirt
has fallen apart and is no longer available. I just have no idea of the legalities.
Add money to that equation and the scales might tip the other direction.

This is very common place I see people selling them on ebay more so punk and indie rock bands though, bands that couldnt afford  to copyright their name or wasn't smart enough to.  I've printed a few for myself and friends but never sold them for profit.
