Nazdar - Nortek Screens - Would you accept these?
« on: June 30, 2016, 10:59:01 AM »
So we decided to try something new... so we ordered two screens from Nazdar ---who orders from Nortec -- We had them Deboss/Caulk/extra glue around the frames to try to eliminate ...most...taping. Screens came in, looked great. 155 mesh, 26nt tension. Thick red border, great caulking job. Reclaimed like a charm. We used these screens for 5 months with no issues. GREAT, PERFECT!

So we placed our order of 100 nortek (few 110, most 155) screens, with a note on the order/email that stated. Please change the top and bottom extra glue/debossing to 2" tall to help with complete coverage with the scoop coater. Please also watch the tensions of these screens because we also noticed our past order of 100 screens tension (from a year ago) levels dropping to 20 or below after work hardened. If there is any way to keep them 20+ after we work harden them that would be great.

No problem. Bang, ordered.

So this is what we get in yesterday.

- Red glue/deboss is half as thick. (I bet the power washer would blow this off) (See comparison picture side by side)
- No caulking
- Highest tension we found was 20nt. First 155 off the top was 17nt.

I have told them to take them back and try again. What would you do?
I spend too much money on equipment...

Well, we know that if Peter W. was still at the helm, he'd be as concerned as you. Let's assume that whoever is now in charge is just as caring about customer service, and will address this (assuming that you did again go through Nazdar, and they are the "they")
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

hey, if your customer ordered something from you and it was that far off would you eat it?  I would.  It's not right.

they aren't the only game in town when it comes to screens.  You can remind them of that.

Like stated above, contact nazdar. They should remedy this pretty quickly.

I'm still waiting on a reply with what their production manager says. I guess we will find out.

I don't think I would want these even if they were at a 50% discount. Without the Caulking that would be a mess in the reclaim department with ink getting in the cracks...low tensions to start out with, I could only imagine what they end up at 14-15?

I would strongly suggest Graphic Screen Fashion out of the Chicago area for great static frames at a great price.

Frank B. will give you value and repeatability and developed the sealant system to eliminate taping.  GSF 847 875 7549 and ask for Frank.

Compare and you will see a major difference in quality!

Another thumbs up for Frank (and his brother Rocky) at GSF.  They do a great job.  One note tho, if you want higher tension on the screens, make sure you ask them to stretch them tighter, their defaults are sometimes a bit lower than we'd like, but just a simple ask and they got our thin-thread screens up to the mid 20's... Our 150/48's come in now around 24-26N and settle in at 20-22N, and stay there.

Personally I don't like the sealant system as it makes a mess during reclaim (reflects the water back at you), but your experiences may be different.

I would tell them that there are 100 screens sitting in your shop that are not getting paid for until they are picked back up and what you actually ordered is delivered....  But then again, I can be a dick. ::)

Hopefully I'll never have to grow up and get a real job...

LuckyFly:  I just stumbled across this thread.  Very sorry for your issues with the frames.  We have had great success working with Nortech.  We will certainly take care of this issue.  I recall seeing an email bounce around this morning, so I imagine it might be in relation to this, but not sure.  Anyway, I will forward this to our folks in charge of consumables, and we will reply back to you.

Thanks and best!

Nothing makes me laugh more than seeing a $300 Newman meter on a 20 something brand new static and hearing complaints of how crappy the tension is.

send that crap back and get you some real frames to go with that great meter.

Now that`s a bit harsh:)
I take great pleasure from doing tension readings on our static frames from Murakami. All s-mesh, over a one year period they are still at 26N, that`s 2N below the max. recommended level. And yes we have used those frames a fair bit.
And depending on the mesh 20N might be smack bang in the middle of what is recommended.
Even on roller frames you would not want to exceed 28N when stretching s-mesh.

The truth is always harsh when one doesn't want to accept it.
I've got nothing but love for S-mesh brother. It's changed the industry for the better and is what's sending the sales of the MZX rollers through the roof.

The absolute best combo is s-mesh and mzx rollers. It's an investment that no static frame can ever match. The murakami frames and mesh are the bomb and i've used many of them with amazing results. It's just what they are attached to that i will never get on board with.

the ONLY time statics are ok is in Tony's shop, cause as we all know.. DC screens don't need no tension

Totally agree on the MZX-S-mesh combo. Unfortunately I was introduced to s-mesh after purchasing mainly M3 frames and just a few MZX frames. Would have saved me a lot  of cash on the frames and the shipping would we have gone only for MZX frames.
But yes generally there is no need for a tension meter if you buy just some average static frames. Still I`m positively surprised how well the statics we got re-streched by Murakami hold the tension.
