Got a question for all the cool kids...

This weekend I was fortunate enough to receive a 42" TV my wife took out of her office. I'm trying to think of a useful way it could be used in the shop. I DON'T want it for watching TV. Wondering if anyone has one or seen a shop that uses a TV in a productive manner?

I was thinking maybe schedule or something? No clue how to implement that though, plus that just send like overkill. Maybe above the infeed to the dryer with artwork for jobs being printed?

I originally was going to hook it up to my old analog surveillance cameras and affix magnets to the base of the cameras. Then move the cameras to whatever heads are printing. Put the TV on the press in front of the load unload stations so we could monitor ink levers better. 42" seems like overkill though...

Any ideas?

Production display.

for google doc users.. this could display the calendar or whatnot so at a glance across the shop you can see color coded boxes for ready status.

The other things you already mentioned are what I see them used for but here is another I think it excellent for the front entryway, customer service waiting area.

Put it out there where your customers can see an instructional process bee of every step and focus on areas in the process that are ezpeciallchallengibg for customers to understand (like art charges). Give image examples and then the process to make one work. Simple spot color with clean art provided...and a pixelated jpg.

Then show the difference between a 1 color on black and the look of that same one color on a white tee. Then another example of how a one color photo looks on black...and a one 3 color grayscale print.

Then 4 color process in white and 4 color process on color tees.

Then sim process.
Mir might be best to use the same image so they see it down different ways.

So all in all, your TV scrolls this video and repeats all day long. You can add in other steller examples of your printing imagery to scroll through also.

I like Dan's idea. We use a 36" for a production display. Works well.

I like your idea Dan about info for customers when they come in, but we really don't have any customers "walk in". Plus having a TV visible from the front door I feel would only encourage the upstanding locals to break in...   Think though the idea of the "info slide show" if you will, is great and we should try to put one together. Maybe we send it out with new quotes or something.

The other guys that mentioned something, are the TV's you guys use or have seen in use essentially just a "monitor" for a computer some where else? I would rather not have a whole additional computer off somewhere. Maybe one of those thumb drives that turns a TV into a Chromebook? That is a bit too far out on the tech branch currently for me to know what I'm talking about.

we have a netbook (running win10) that we use back in the press area to bring up proofs when setting up multicolor work, and have been talking about adding a larger screen on it so you can see it from the press.

Not sure, I haven't used that device before. But at a quick glance I personally would still go with the kangaroo. The Kangaroo is more like your standard PC in feel/capabilities, the Chrome OS is more like a tablet. Personal preference thing here.

Personally I don't like the way Google calendars displays with the Chrome App, vs Windows. That's just me tho.

And the Kangaroo has USB ports, so you can have about as much storage as you want if needed. Just plug in an external hard drive, or USB stick.

I wanted to do what Dan is talking about years ago, have a tv or something that would fit in our window so people walking by could see the process of screen printing, great idea if you got a waiting area for people to kill some time and see what it takes to produce there order.
