Replacing an encoder strip on an epson
« on: January 13, 2016, 02:00:43 PM »
Anyone ever replaced an encoder strip on an epson?  I have an i image with the epson 7900 attached to it and while cleaning the back carriage track, I messed around and accidently knocked the encoder strip out of it's center holder.  I didn't notice that I had done that so when I went to print, it put a crease about 6 inches long down the center of it.  I put it back in the holder after noticing and it prints but randomly gives me an error.

I've ordered a new one and man that plastic ain't cheap but I was wondering if anyone has ever tackled that one and if so are there any major things I can expect to give me fits.  I've looked all through the service manual and it talks of replacing the encoder sensor but nowhere have I found anything about just replacing the strip.

It is a very easy process just like putting it back when you knocked it out. The only thing to watch for is when you attach the spring on the end to not rip the plastic strip

It is Extremely easy. I threaded it through/in the print head before attaching to both ends.

This is kind of eerie, had issues with the strip in ours yesterday...

Good to know it's easy.  I get nervous working around the printhead on any printer.  Me and printers haven't had the best history when it comes to me working on them.  I walk around all of ours like they are nuclear bombs ready to blow at any minute.  Especially epsons.

Thanks for the replies
