Black Inks vs Black inks

I don't think this subject comes up to much because maybe everyone feels like I do about Black ink is black no matter the brand  , well I had to rethink that as I had bought a can of Batman black which is a triangle ink.  My normal Black ink I buy is WM Plastics creamy black and just bought some union black and I can really tell the difference in all 3, WM is my #1 still and Batman will be a #2 black and union once it's gone my never buy it again any other Pros/Cons on black inks.  Printing the WM prints real good and creamy just like they say and the Black is also creamy and that's right out the can where the Union is a little stiff and needs to be worked then it prints good.

I use the batman black and River City Graphics house brand black pretty interchangeably.  I have an excalibur black that is absolute crap, but i dont remember which one.  I know some people have been trying and liking the one from Joe Clark that Alan has been testing for a while.

we used to use Batman black as well because it's matte not gloss. We are leaning more towards water base and I think we are now on to Wilflex epic matte something or other. It has the least amount of build up that we have found. We tend to run black early in the print order, sometimes first color down so build up was a problem. I think the worst black we ever had was  CCI EZ flow , but I have heard they changed the formula since we tested it but...I don't have any need to switch again.

When it comes to black printing I prefer waterbased permatone or supercover. Their black are kickass

We use Matsui rc spot black for waterbase, wilflex epic matte black for plastisol.  Totally happy with both of them.

yes, epic matte here too.  I LOVE printing black first.  It feels like I am breaking some sort of rule.

For a water based black try Wilflex Oasis Intense Black - the fiber matte down and the wash durability is truly something - no more "washed out" look with this baby sat on your shirts

Funny, we've been doing more and more of that too.

Black - white - flash - colors... many cases just so much easier.

The black from Synergy Inks (Joe Clarke) is pretty awesome.

As for black first.

If you have quartz flashes, be careful about flashing to long on poly and delicate fabrics.

The black heats up VERY quickly and can melt/burn the fabric under it!

amen to that.... we had a few memorable melt downs on press from running black first...but we still do it

Yep.  We really like putting black down first but it's not done often due to the speed the black flashes under quartz.  Someone should make a slow flash black.

Black absorbs heat. White reflects heat. Flash adjustment often necessary

I must be in the minority here..... HATE HATE HATE printing black first.... Flashes way quicker then white, creates heat on the pallets, etc......  Some jobs we do it to get the blends looking the way we want but for the most part in my shop black first creates a lot of issues LOL
