2 spot color heat transfer
« on: October 13, 2015, 01:03:32 PM »
OK, my best customer has a request, and it's 2 baseball hats, with a 2 color print, the word BULLHORN in which the "O" is a different color. I'd like to print the first color, flash it, print the second, powder it and send it down the dryer. Does one powder each color, or only once after the second color is done? Will the transfer still be OK? I know it's here somewhere in the archives, but I don't have time today to search, thanks all...

I just did a ton of visors this way. Top color down first, quick flash and then white down last. Came out fine. Truthfully, we have never used the powder and we have never seemed to have issues. Just mix in the Wilflex transfer base to each ink and they seem to work great.

I sometimes even apply the powder after curing. The ink is just tacky enough for it to stick.

It's 2 spots, the white isn't a backer, so I was wondering if the flash on the first color would keep it from getting any of the adhesive on it; we like the powder for the few transfer jobs we end up doing in house because it's just that extra bit of guarantee. Now that I've had a chance to see the file, I'll be able to cut it out of vinyl... (no ® though, they get what they can get)

Thanks Andy, I just saw your reply too.

I would do a clear backer then powder, flashing after each color and before clear backer., but not after the clear.  I find the powder really makes them foolproof compared to no powder.

I need to try this as we are doing more transfers than I'd like to do and we sometimes have problems with the powder sticking to the transfer paper after it's run thru the dryer, which makes the unprinted part of the transfer paper stick to the garment.

Life is like Kool-Aid, gotta add sugar/hardwork to make it sweet!!

And leaves a mark as well

Just be careful.  Only two transfer orders I've ever had kicked back to me were jobs where I didnt use powder (both were multicolor and like 5 pieces each and I was in a rush...)

Powder especially helps over cured inks to adhere.

You need to be aggressive when tapping the sheet to remove the excess, a little overkill won't hurt.

I tap the edge of the sheet in my powder box/bin once or twice, then sort of snap it from the sides to pop off any excess.  Never had any issues with paper sticking.
