Thanks Zelko. We use Crown mostly nowadays also, along with some Amagic.

To me, an equally important question is what are you using for adhesive? We can make foil "kinda stick" to lots of different inks and adhesives. But to get good coverage and then to get it to ride out 25+ washes, especially silver...makes the adhesive really important.

The best adhesives we've tried are waterbased but they are a nuisance to keep happy on screen, specially in a design which uses a lot of non-foiled elements mixed in. It just seems like its an awful lot of plates to keep spinning at the same time. But with Silver foil (our worst foil to get 100% reliable coverage and good washfastness) we seem to always go back to waterbased adhesives.

I'd like to hear what more seasoned experts use for their foils and adhesives, because we think it's a pretty fiddly process... and we do a fair amount of it.

I was a Crown guy forever but one of my distributors carries Amagic so we gave it a whirl. We've switched.

Silver has always been the most difficult, you either get spotty coverage or the sheet sticks to the
print so bad you rip the shirt in pieces trying to remove it.

Ten thousand silver foil prints later we're using HD clear tinted a bit. Heat and time is *really* important
with silver (like a second either way can screw you) and you have to account for the platen/pad heating/cooling as you're
going along and adjust accordingly.

I was about to post almost this same thing.  We used to stock some CRL, but switched to Amagic and have great results.

All the tips listed above is pretty much what I suggest when selling adhesives for foils, but if you are dead set on a waterbased adhesive Amagic recommends using the virus adhesive with their foils.
