Sublimated on cotton?
« on: September 21, 2015, 04:21:55 PM »
Hi there.

I was handed this, printed on a 92% cotton pant, to research for execution. I do not think this was screen printed, on close inspection there are no dots visible in the print.

on a recent trip overseas we were shown examples of sublimation done on cotton substrates. Apparently this is achieved by printing an adhesive like underbase that somehow allows the sublimation ink to adhere to the cotton. I think might be what we are looking at here.

Do any of you have experience with this product or technique? Can anyone tell me how it works and how we might setup an art file for it?

Thanks.

i doubt it's sublimation.  It is digital printing of some sort though.  Many times that is done on wide format digital printers as roll goods and cut and sewn from there.

sublimation ink doesn't adhere to cotton. It colors adhesive/ coating. Which is polyester or polyurethan based.
If there is no hand, than digital like Kornit Allegro or some of many italian machines

A local company here, NovaChrome, used to sell a spray that allowed sublimation on cotton.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

one of the companies that sell paper, have one that you print on with sublimated inks, and makes it work on cotton. But, that's like saying you play the flute by blowing in this end and moving your fingers around on the other. Check out Neenah papers, I think that's where I saw them...

Thanks for all the help.

I got in touch with Neenah Paper and they only seem to offer the standard cotton heat transfer stuff. The search continues.

Here's one, though I don't trust the OKI printer, as it has no black, they claim that the CMY will make black, but it that were true, nobody would ever need K, right? Anyway,
