Problems with heat pressing reflective vinyl?
« on: July 20, 2015, 03:15:15 PM »
I am following the suggested settings for heat pressing reflective vinyl and it is being a pain in the ass.  the backing is not sticky, but when heat pressed it is straight up adhering to the shirt and i have to really pull at it to get it to release from the fabric.  Anyone have any experience with this stuff and know what might be causing this?

Have you called the manufacturer tech? I know that tech support at Specialty Materials is freakin' great. I don't know about Siser, but I seem to remember that they took care of me.
What brand are you using?

we've done a lot of this stuff with no troubles following the direction sheet... are you sure you're getting the protective layer off?  the stuff is kinda sandwiched in.

A perfect place for this, but I hope I'm wrong

there's a liner on the material that needs to be removed before cutting/applying.

like this:

---- carrier sheet ----
material
---- liner ----

you need to remove the liner before working with it.

yes, liner has been removed.  The issue isn't with the material itself adhering, but rather the mylar type backing also adhering like crazy to the fabric.  I can kind of get it off by heating and removing the heat a few times and working at a corner, but then it distorts the crap out of the fabric.  Just wondering why the backing would be so sticky...

Yes, we had a similar issue. We were using Imprintables Warehouse Spectra something, switched to Siser EasyWeed. It's still a little tricky cutting and weeding though...

ok got it to "work".  Had to lower my pressing temp to 275 (on the dial and checked with laser thermometer), then press for like 1 second, then carefully peel the backing and do the actual 5 second press.  That mostly worked, though I had to reposition some of the vinyl on every other one which made it take forever.  Had two sort of tear on me too.

I'm using this stuff (i think): http://www.rivercitygraphicsupply.com/products/details/siser-easyweed-15-reflective-heat-transfer-vinyl
